Avatar question.. help/warning

Hey guys, I was trying out a new avatar this morning to see how it looked then I switched back to my very cool .gif Morgan and to my dismay it won't save it as a .gif now, only a static of the .gif. I'm guessing that the switchover to the new forum software won't let you upload .gif's now but old ones were grandfathered in is my guess. My question is, is there anyway to go back to my old .gif??? I'm kinda bummed right now. Can someone tag a mod or admin that can help with this please. Thanks

Have you tried changing the name with a GIF extension, and then uploading that one?
I saved the old one before I switched just in case then tried to re-upload the exact same one but it uploaded as a non-animated static
Just tell people to twist there phone/ monitor from side to side to get that cartwheel effect.

What I was saying is (keep a backup) then
1) Rename oldicon.gif to newicon.gif
2) Upload newicon.gif
If it doesn't work, you should send a PM to MarkStephenson (his icon is at the top of the page - click on it, then MESSAGE)
...why on God's green earth would you ever try and replace that Avatar? It literally was the coolest online forum avatar I had ever seen...I vote they give you a mulligan and get that baby back where she belongs...I mean seriously, if you want to mess with a new avatar just start an Alt like everyone else

I just wanted to see what @messydesk's other gif he did for me looked like in avatar form. I didn't even think I wouldn't be able to switch back
The animated gifs are annoying to me. (PS: It's an icon not an "avatar.")
I believe I saw that the new forum does not allow the coding for a new gif to play...sorry!

It seems that folks have always had problems going back to an earlier icon and for several different reasons, size, file type, changes in software on the site. For that reason, I have left mine the same.
I just saw that knightem has a motion gif, swimming fish in a bowl, see what/how (s)he did it.

Thanks but he/she isn't a new member so probably had it since before the change. I hope I can find a way to change mine back though. What a stupid mistake!

I was thinking about that but I'm not a big penny specific guy. Maybe I'll try it though. It was an epic find.
If it's any consolation, the new icon with Dan Carr's owl is sure pretty. You seem to be the first to "claim" it.

Thanks! The owl design in gold is killer. Much better than in silver imo for some reason. Only wish I could afford the 2.5oz gold octagon owl
The big thing with my .gif avatar, aside from being uber cool, was it helped to easily find my previous posts on threads of I wanted to go back and read what I wrote. I've been going through the 5 stages of grief due to the loss of my .gif. Life will go on though.
I still might change to my matte proof Lincoln soon at least until the sale for luck but will probably change back to the owl after.
