It doesn't matter. The coin has been played with and is damaged goods. It isn't even "market acceptable."

No, it was a hearing problem, not a spelling issue. What I read aloud which is written, isn't what she heard; which was spoken. Let me spell it out.
She is sitting there, and I read this thread title
"Braided Hair Poll ... Good or bad ? "
She looked up and said, "I don't braid my hair, but you can pull it any time".
So I laughed and said, "Not PULL, POLL, it's a coin thing".
Never mind. You're not going to get it , either.

only 4 of the known marriages have the tip of the lowest curl over the 8 in the date.
n5, 6, 16, 17
of those 4, none have the 1 and the truncation that far apart.
there are other things but lets keep it simple.

Wow....good call. Same reverse die defects as the ones noted in the article, though muted either by die use time or accelerated coin wear.
Scary.
They even put traces of 'green crud' frequently seen on real coins, into the reverse devices of the coin posted - wow - that is taking some effort!
this is why i posted this one. pretty good but only a class III. maybe III+
to me, it was mostly obvious but i'd say 95%. i wanted a consult to bring me the last 5%.
imagine my shock when i saw the responses. oof.
imo, the color, unsharp devices although too much separation are across the full obv/rev.
i thought these were on a 4 digit date punch?
none of the numbers like uo and exhibit the wonkiness that their numbers usually do.

Old thread but first time seeing it for me, must have missed it the first time round. Color and date was off but I would not have flagged it as counterfeit, as I just would not expect someone to CF a late date large cent. Need to be more suspicious i guess. I am learning that everything has been counterfeited.
After knowing the answer, the inconsistant wear, devices too soft for the degree of wear, and date irregularities became more obvious.
