Show a coin(s) you purchased that turn out better than the pics posted

by the seller.

The seller posted a few blurry pics of this coin on Ebay and no one wanna take a chance after a month, so decided to take a chance and it turn out to be my best Ebay purchase to date. Wish I can by a dozen more LG cent that look exactly like this one. .. <3

    Great Large Cent. Congrats.
I assume it was raw off eBay?

    Great comparison photos @Barndog and @TopographicOceans !

The others are great coins too! Would be great to see the sale photos.

I just recently picked up a coin that looked horrible from the photos but was an absolute rarity so I went for it and was shocked by how clean it looked when I received it. Still have to work on photos for it.

I'm sometimes surprised by CAC agreeing to bean despite soft strikes on stars.

Fully struck stars used to be a thing. I'm also curious about the increasing acceptance of softly struck stars at the highest grades.

Nahh, not that lucky, but the seller posted a few fuzzy pics and there were no bidders for the coin in over a month ,so I call the seller and made him an reasonable offer which he did accepted. When I received the coin I was really surprised by how nice it look.

I think b/c of its eye appeal with no ugly carbon spots.

I don't have pictures (sorry), but some years back I found a 1936-P PCGS MS66 Buffalo on eBay that had lousy pictures. However, one of the images hinted that the coin might have some detail rarely seen on this date.

    So I took a chance.

What I received was a 100% fully hammered coin unlike any I had ever seen before. To this day, I've only seen a single 36-P with a comparable strike.

So that's how you acquired that coin! Your 31-D is one of my favorites out of all your Lincolns. Outstanding!

This AU58 had sort of a mundane photo when I bought it ... boy was I surprised seeing it in hand!
Phil did a great job with the TrueView photo.

This also had a very non-descript sellers photo ...
Gosh was it amazing looking in-hand.

This coin looked a bit muted and odd in the sellers photo on ebay -- took a flyer on it.
But wow, when it fell out of the shipping envelope, the angels started to sing.

Sorry if off topic, but why do some of the true views have black backgrounds vs. white backgrounds?

T, the officual tv photos have white backgrounds. I manually flip the background color to black on some of my coins -- mostly because toned coins look a bit more "poppy" on black vs. white

I often find my Heritage weekly (world coin) internet purchases are nicer than the pics. I think they do that on purpose.

I always save sellers images when I buy coins online no matter how good or bad they are. I'm not entirely sure why I started, but I am glad I did.

Here's a recent purchase from not so great pictures. I got this one for $22.00.

I've been fortunate enough to have that happen quite a number of times but I'll be darned if I can remember which ones.

This was one of the worst pictures I'd ever seen on eBay at the time, probably about '05. Out of focus, horribly overexposed, the only thing I could see, and it took some enhancing to be sure, was the doubling on the Indian's brow and eyelid. Oh, and it was in a PCGS MS-65 with a return privilege, so I paid my $195 and waited. This is what it really looks like.

This 1836 Block 8 quarter eagle turned out to look better in person than it did on the Internet. I arranged to see it before I went to the show. The grade is AU-55.

just found these old pics. Saw this half dime raw on ebay a few years ago, noted it was a very difficult die marriage to find anywhere near mint state. Sent it to PCGS, they sent it back with a 62 grade (and it has since been CAC'd). Below the ebay images is the Mark Goodman pic.
