"Stolen by mint employee?" Well, we know that's not possibly true. LOL.

They must have govt experts involved in the script writing. Makes me wonder how Secretary of the Treasury William Woodin (1933) got his authorized specimen? It certainly wasn't from stealing since the US Mint came under his jurisdiction.

I was watching this episode with my wife and didn't know about the 1933 Double Eagle being featured on the show. During a commercial I checked e-mail and noted this thread.

After the commercial, sure enough, they mentioned the coin!

Spoiler allert!!!!! Don't read this if you have not seen the show !!!

Buried with a loved one, and the government won't dig up the body?

    PLEASE!!!

Given the level of the government greed and obsession concerning these coins, a judge would be gotten out of bed in the middle of night and the backhoes would have dug that coffin out of the ground before sunrise.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
