I see one has the option to use markdown in one's post/s. When I click on the link it makes no sense to me. Can someone explain in one or two SIMPLE sentences what it is/does and why or when I would want to use it?
Also when you go to edit a post in a thread, does it temporarily remove the thread from view?

Markdown is a simple text-based markup language and conversion tool that allows writers to create great content for the web without having to worry too much about HTML. The syntax of the language is designed to be easy to learn and intuitive. It’s ideal for people that write content for the web but that might be distracted by the HTML syntax.
By adding simple characters you can make the text BOLD, create Headers, make it larger etc..... Its simpler than trying to write in HTML language like this and many sites are written in.
