Ouch! You can never be too sure...

So I haven`t been too active in coins for the past few years. As a Dad trying to bring up 2 girls on my own I have not really been left with the free time that I used to have a while back. Be that what it may, I was able to get my first listings up on The Bay in a long time to try to bring in a little income to help towards my daughters activities. All of my coins were graded by PCGS. Not going into too much detail, but I carefully checked my listings a few times to make sure all was in place as I start my auctions at .99 with no reserve. I believe that is the best way to generate the most interest and therefore (hopefully) the most money too. So my auctions were ending yesterday and everything looked good except for one coin in particular. It was a well known variety coin which should have at least brought me what I had in it as I had gotten a pretty fair deal when I purchased it. Watching the auction over the course of the week bidding was low which is not uncommon. Snipe bids are usually within the last minute and I totally understand that. Views were low as was the number of watchers. I kept telling myself to not worry, It'll be fine. Don't get me wrong, the coin wasn't going to break me one way or another but I was just wondering why such low interest? Anyway, speed up to the end of the auction and it sold for half of what it should. Someone got a great deal as I would have loved to win this coin for that amount. Hmmm, what happened? Is The Bay that dead? Then I noticed it... I had not changed the category from one listing to the next because I used a template to keep my info stored so I can create the listings easier. My coin was in a listing not even close to what it should have been. Yup, my fault, totally. To sum it up, I had thought I looked at everything in all of my auctions as to not make any errors but sure enough, wrong. Just by being in the wrong category my coin sold way cheap. So basically what I was wondering is if anyone ever got such a bargain by a coin being listed in a wrong category?

I have gotten great buys that way many times, but I've also been in your position. Once I listed a coin as a BIN instead of an .99 auction :#

Am I the only one who sees some of my font in my OP a weird red smaller computerlike font? Why is this?

At first I thought you were trying to emphasize something. :D

First, your type is probably red because you used a backwards or backslant type apostrophe in don't and wasn't instead of a regular apostrophe. The software must have picked that up as some type of code to change the font and color.

Yes, I've both picked up bargains in the wrong category (bust quarters in the half dollar section) and listed them wrong too.

I checked and everything seemed to be the way it should be. IDK,...
Oh wait, I figured it out :p

Anyway, I'm glad to know I wasn`t the only one to do something like this.

I quit listing on eBay with 99 cent starting price. Sometimes you will do everything right and still get stung with the final sold price. I will either do a best offer, BIN, or a minimum starting price auction that I am willing to sell at.

Yeah, I am thinking that is the best way to go.

That is unfortunate, I don't think I've ever scored anything on the cheap due to mis-categorization.

I have also started doing a little selling on Ebay recently. I've been starting everything at $1 and seem to have decent results, actually just had an anacs coin sell for over pcgs price guide. I am paranoid about listing mistakes and have been doing all the listing details manually, then double check, then triple check...

Sorry to hear about your misfortune in listing the coin incorrectly.
