Gold splatter on US $100 bill

I received a $100 bill, USA, and there are splatter marks on the front and back that appear like gold.

  1. Is it likely these marks came from printing?
  2. If so, what metal would be most common?
  3. Finally, would a genuine printing error of this nature result in a rare bill?

Look like something got on the note after it was issued and released by the BEP.

No gold at the BEP that I know of.

Edit: I just remembered, they do print some "souvenir" cards that has a gold? foil stamping. Example would be the intaglio "Defenders of Freedom" series.
