Gold splatter on US $100 bill

I received a $100 bill, USA, and there are splatter marks on the front and back that appear like gold.
- Is it likely these marks came from printing?
- If so, what metal would be most common?
- Finally, would a genuine printing error of this nature result in a rare bill?

Look like something got on the note after it was issued and released by the BEP.
No gold at the BEP that I know of.
Edit: I just remembered, they do print some "souvenir" cards that has a gold? foil stamping. Example would be the intaglio "Defenders of Freedom" series.
