Well the Buy It Now seller would have to have the coin presently available. The other may have some kind of conditional claim on the coin in the same way that many EBay listings are for items not presently in hand. Doubt we will ever know the exact deal between the two but one would expect that the Buy It Now seller will no longer have claim on the coin after 4 days and 18 hours when the open bid auction runs. (Maybe it has a reserve that matches the Buy It Now Price?) An interesting strategy to separate the Buy It Now listing from the bidding listing.
That said, the coin does not impress me as being so strikingly toned so as to justify much premium just for the toning. The CAC sticker is only saying that it is a strong MS65 and really has nothing to do with the toning I assume. Of course to another's eye the partial toning might be just what they are looking for and thus be willing to pay a premium.
The PCGS Price guide values this coin at $180.00 retail. If one equates the + PCGS listing to the added value of a CAC green sticker, then the maximum retail is $210.00. Looks like the current bid at $172.52 is in the ballpark.
I , and I assume the seller(s), would be surprised to see the Buy It Now price met so it is probably a moot point that the same coin is in two auctions. An uninformed buyer might see that the same year and grade coin is listed in another auction at the higher figure and based on that bid higher in the bidding auction thinking he is getting a bargain.
Edited to add:
While I still see the Buy It Now Auction up on EBAy by seller ishopcoionshows4you, the bidding auction seems to have disappeared. It may have run its course with the reserve not having been met or was otherwise pulled by the "other" seller in response to this thread?
Something interesting - one auction shows a photo of the reverse, near the PCGS hologram, that identifies a point of damage (a chip) on the slab. The other auction does not indicate that defect.
Dueling Auctions... Well it could just be a one of our Siamese Twin dealer members who took the same coin on consignment from the same collector without consulting one another?

Heh
Please... Save The Stories, Just Answer My Questions, And Tell Me How Much!!!!!
Normally, Rick, that is an option.....I looked into that and I would not think that is likely at all in this case, due to timings of the auctions, etc.
It confounds me that in this hobby we constantly see dual listings of coins. There are even robo programs that some dealers have that take another dealers "wholesale" listings, adds x% and relists them on their site. All with full knowledge by both parties it is happening. I for one never list any coin that is not in my physical inventory. The risk to customer service is just too great. That is just my personal way of doing things, but clearly, it is an "accepted" and in some cases an encouraged practice for many others.

Got to thinking of this one today and checked.
Has me scratching my head right now as one of them is still up and the other one had a winning bid (sold - for $207.52 back in December).
So, the one ebay listing for this never changed, and is still up by the same person who had it up back then....the other one sold.

You might try the ask the seller a question approach.
And, I would do that, IF I cared enough to do it....I barely cared enough to update this thread as I thought it was funny.
Not after the coin. Don't care about the seller/purchaser. So, don't care enough to ask the seller

Both forum members.....will be interesting to see how this one turns out....

any chance the second member could be a alt account of the first person?
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.

Nah...I honestly don't think so. Always a chance, but I really don't think so (assuming you mean 2nd member to be the buyer).
Both sellers are completely different people
