Complete U.S. Type Set 1792-1964
Has anyone checked out the D.L.Hansen set which is now ranked #2? This set has only recently been listed. It has an 1802 $1 in PR 64! I have been watching this set for a couple of weeks . I have no connection with the owner. What a set!

I like that it is open for viewing and has plenty of pictures. I understand why high value sets are closed to the public (so sellers can't jack up the price on coins needed to upgrade) but I really like that Hansen is sharing his collection with us.
His cameo & deep cameo gold coins are awesome.

The seated coins are really nice. Can't wait until some of the others get photographed. The 1890 PF 68 DCAM quarter is beyond belief. Looks like a modern mint product.

Amazing. 2 things really caught my eye when glancing over the set. First, an MS66! Bust Half Disme...wow. Second, the Draped Bust Small Eagle half only being a F15...almost seems a little out of place in this set and probably one that will be upgraded given the caliber of the coins in the set...just goes to show how hard this type is to fill even for those with monster budgets.

I can come close to marching with the respect to holes filled, but the state of preservation of his set blows my stuff away.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?0 -
An astounding set, I'm sure the couple of remaining holes will be filled, and the slight unevenness in some of the grades, will be upgraded as time goes on, I hope it remains public for all of us to enjoy, and that all of the pictures are eventually taken.
This set, and Bill Jones', for that matter, are the ones that I emulate, in a much more modest way. I'm missing 29 of the 137 coins needed to complete this set, and I'll bet it's pretty easy to guess which ones
. In a way, I assume we all have at least several coins for this set and would enjoy having them all, this set is the essence of US type set collecting, and I really like that it stops at 1964, any coins after that date would hurt more than help the overall set IMO.Liberty: Parent of Science & Industry

It was a great accomplishment to assemble such a high-quality set of Liberty double eagles. Every coin was remarkable for its eye appeal. It says a lot to have put together a set of $20s finer than Bass, Eliasberg and Browning/Dallas Bank.

He didn't buy any from me, that's for sure.
I don't really do the Registry, but PCGS has a feature where you can import a CSV file with cert numbers so I did that.
I created a Complete US Type Set (1792-1964) and came in ranked number 34 in Current Finest0 -

Was surprised at the No. 2 ranking of the set so I wanted to see what the No. 1 set had. Unfortunately, the owner of that set has their set hidden. Still don't fully understand why people do that, especially on a type set. Sure, if you're putting together a specific set of coins and you need one or two dates to complete it and you don't want your competitors (or certain dealers) knowing which one or two coins you need, then maybe it makes sense. But the High Desert Set is 100% complete and has been the No. 1 set for 15 years now... why hide it??? Disappointing.
