Here is a brand new Netflix Original movie. Who's in? If so, come back and post a review after you watch it.

Watched the trailer and looks kind of " Disney-ish" but probably watch it just to see some inside the mint footage.

You should be able to watch it on demand on Netflix for the foreseeable future. It's a Netflix Original movie so they will have it available essentially for ever.

"Disney-ish" is a good description. Doesn't mean it's bad, just not an "R" rated heist movie with violence and car chases. More family fare oriented. We'll see after viewing.

I never enjoy these contrived plot movies... the characters are shallow, the plot thin and many parts simply unbelievable..... Cheers, RickO

I hope you will post a review after you watch. After all, this is a movie with a numismatic theme....a rare event that deserves a chance. And Netflix has made some surprisingly good Original programming, right? I'm hoping for a good movie experience without glaring flaws.

rico - you were right. 2* of 5
Improbable is right. Not believable. Bad ending. Not sorry I watched cuz it had some promise. A grade C made for cable movie.

It's a horrible movie with horrible message; all people are crooks, invasion of our privacy is for our own good, and only those with good intentions are patsies.

The main problem is that with all their axes to grind they lacked time for a real plot but the acting, direction, and special effects were also very poor. Characters were one dimensional (if that). There was sense of surrealism throughout.

But the worst thing about it is the only mint you'll see is in the opening shots and they messed up everything related to coins and coining.

It wasn't even good enough to be bad or bad enough to be good. I watched it just to see if there would be anything "utterly without redeeming social importance". It was ostensibly about coins afterall.

I doubt I'll be watching any more Netflix movies.

@Kudbegud ...Thanks for the report... glad I did not tune in..... After so many years of really bad movies, I have just no tolerance for most films anymore. Lousy acting, paper thin plots, too many special effects and implausible situations. Mostly garbage. Last film I enjoyed was American Sniper. Cheers, RickO

I downloaded it and watched it on the airplane.
It's a story about a kid whose father is arrested for embezzling $10 million from their school.
To save the school, he and 3 friends come up with a plan to break into the Mint and mint 2,000 Minnesota quarters with an extra fish fin error and plan on selling them for $5,000 each.

The movie is geared towards high school geeks. The characters and plot are weak.

Daniel Carr (dcarr) does get Special Thanks credit for creating the prop quarter.

Is he selling any of the props?

It's a teen story but you should have read the book. It's a quick read. I find these sort of themes better read than watched. I.e. Harry Potter. While the movies are good, the books are xx% better.

Don't waste any time on this one. It sucks.

Just watched it with my 9yo brother. He liked it. I thought it was ok too for what it is. Its not a documentary for cryin' out loud. Very cool that Dan played a small part too.

Boy did they screw this one up. Before I even hit the play button, my expectations of the movie were vanilla at best. Which is not a bad thing if you're trying to gain the interest of the 6-18 y/o demographic. But like cladking had mentioned, this in no way is a believable story. I understood the premise of keeping it somewhat kid friendly and hoping to ignite some sort of interest in coins. But with the misunderstood realization that kids are stealing as the main focus, whether good or bad, destroyed any educational or entertaining credibility on this one.

Junk. A waste of time. Not at all up to Netflix standards.

I thought that it was an interesting film, although meant for kids.

Most films dealing with coin or numismatic topics get the facts wrong.

I have a few extra that I might sell at some point.
I do not know what became of the majority of them that were sent to the movie producer.

I have a feeling that Netflix purchased the rights after the film was done and the producers were shopping it around. If they would have been involved from the beginning they would have insisted on higher production values and any ending other than the one that was used. It was like they got tired and just stopped. They probably got it relatively cheap.

I haven't watched it yet, and with the reviews here I may pass. I watch a fair amount of movies of all genres. This is somewhat off topic, but your statement is interesting to me because I've noticed recently(maybe I was just naive before) that many geared for teen or tween movies show the "heroes" in a situation of committing crimes as a plot line. I saw one not too long ago, a sort of Robin Hood plot line, where the main character is given the option to sell drugs to repay some debt, he agreed and in the end it was all just a plan to get back at the evil drug lord. The only problem is the kid is committing multiple felonies throughout the whole movie with no end message that it was wrong or bad. The world we live in I suppose.

I watched it. It was terrible. Although, I would imagine those in the 8-13 age group would like it, as already indicated.

Come on it's a cute movie that was filmed in my neighborhood in NY. Part of it right down the street during summer of 2016. The fish coins should be sold I'm sure we can make a market for them. Really anything coin related is better than nothing.

The movie might be redeemable after all. ;)

These were the one decent "special effects". They got pretty good shots of the coins.
