If you cracked out a CAC gold sticker coin and got an upgrade, would you send it off to CAC again?

I'll use an 1892 Barber Half for an example.
In 65 the price guide is $2125 and in 66 it doubles to $4250.
Say you find a MS65 with a gold CAC sticker and buy it. You crack it out and submit it and it comes back MS66.
Would you send it back to CAC to get a new sticker?
What result would you expect? No sticker, Green or Gold.
A gold @ 65 may not merit a sticker @ 66.

I would at least expect a green CAC sticker at the next higher grade.
My understanding is that a gold stickered coin is at least a green stickered coin at the next higher grade. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Sometimes a gold stickered coin can even come back 2 or more grades higher and would STILL get a green CAC sticker. Just depends I guess on how undergraded the gold stickered coin is to begin with.
I'd find a nice collectible to enjoy holding onto, and not give such consideration to the rest of them.

I agree
I agree too

Would definitely send it in. There have been a number of instances of green sticker coins being green stickered again after an upgrade, so a gold bean has a very good chance.
I agree and have heard that happens as well.
You'd have to have someone make an 1892 Barber half dollar in MS65 with a gold CAC sticker, first.
However, there is an 1892 Barber half dollar in MS66 with a gold CAC sticker in existence already.
It is my understanding that a gold CAC sticker coin doesn't mean that it would or should squeak into the next grade, but rather should at least be solid or upper end in the next grade.

Yep.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I'll play devil's advocate. Say it comes back in a new MS 65 holder. Then you have to send it back to CAC and hope they agree to put the gold sticker on it again. Yes, you can tell me that by having a photo image of the coin with the sticker, CAC would do it again. They you get right back where you started, after a lot of aggravation.
Sorry, I have seen nothing but inconsistency across the board, and in this market, would not pay a premium for anything, unless I see a particular coin that if I didn't buy it now, I wouldn't see another one for five years. I do not fish in TDN's area of the pool, so this rarely happens.

It has happened to me. I had a 1818 CBH PCGS AU53 Green CAC...cracked it, submitted it, upgraded to AU55, and sent it to CAC...Green CAC...again.
I only have one Gold CAC coin and she is staying where she is as long as I have her at PCGS AU58.

I've done this with Green not even Gold. Several times.
This can happen in relatively inexpensive areas for patterns and exonumia.
It's fun when you get something you know no one else will have. It's frustrating when you miss it
Don't high grade key coins have certain characteristics like toning , marks that can be recognized as previously submitted to CAC or PCGS /
Send it in again, and let us know what happens. There is always the possibility of not only another green sticker, but also could be another gold sticker. It does happen.
Both staying "As Is." Should receive a green sticker after upgrading though.
My take on CAC is this:
A. Oooh nice. Gets a green sticker.
B. Not a look I like. Gets nothing.
C. Evidence of problems. Gets nothing.
D. Nothing special. Gets nothing.
E. OOOOOOH NICE!!!! Gets gold.
None of the above responses are solidly tied to a certain grade. Within reason, if a coin stickers at one grade it'll often sticker at one grade higher or lower. If they don't sticker it at a given grade, it usually won't sticker at a lower grade either. This is more true of coins in common grade ranges (Morgans at MS 63-66) and isn't quite as true in the realm of top pops.
....... but, you wouldn't catch me cracking out a coin worth that much with a gold sticker. There is usually more downside than upside potential. So you get a full numerical bump. Big deal. You'd have gotten more market value than that with the gold sticker.
Yes, I'd expect a green sticker.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
