Strike Doubling or something else.......1845 Seated 25c

Opinions on the date......looks funky?

    I believe I'm mostly seeing the sides and tops of the numerals (wider at the bottom).
    Looks like the lower left side of the 8 has doubling, though. Not sure if strike doubling.
    Have you looked at it with a stereo microscope?

    Are you talking about the upper left side of the 5? Does appear to be strike doubling.

    The upper part of the 8 and 4 is what I'm looking at.

    Definitely looks like machine doubling...with the cautionary point being the lower left of the 8.... JMO.... Cheers, RickO

    Definitely not the RPD FS-301, which is most evident at the flag of the 5.

    Theory: The date was entered using a '184' logo punch then the 5 was added. The 184 was punched in DEEP, the 5 not so much.
