The Reaction
Early Bird email from CRO. Wham, the color fascinates and stuns me, but OMG the color premium momentarily makes me hesitate. We're talking Ganymede money here, from my perspective. My perception is that this is the entry fee if one wants to play in CRO territory. Angel on shoulder says wish it was cheaper, time to pause.
Fit with the Catbert Collection
My collection is deliberately and by necessity small. I seek coins that produce an emotional response in me with a bias towards U.S. type. Don't care about rarity, strike designations, variety and don't have theme constraints, just does it bring me joy - ala a box of something collecting approach. Relative resell value creeps into my consciousness, but don't intend to sell anything soon (caution, rationalizing in progress). I pull the trigger by calling John boy. 
Arrival of Coin
CRO again sends to wrong zip code causing it to not be delivered before weekend - irritating. Tracking says finally at local post office versus one across town. I hop in car to post office and, after waiting in line, am notified it has already been picked up. Return to office and ask front desk receptionist has mail come. Oh yes, leisurely looking at bottom of stack, here you go. Finally.......I place it on my desk and decide to defer gratification. Get coffee, chat with young ladies in office, saunter back into my office. Can resist no longer....................JOY! DANCING! ECSTASY!
Awaiting Board Response
I good naturedly await critical feedback. Bill Jones says you are a fool paying for that and he would never do it - rookie! Ricko says, harumph, would never pay for tarnish! Just a Commem says he likes and congrats. Roadrunner says I remember back in the 1980s when I was burned on such a coin. CRO takes issue with being called John boy. All of the above said fondly without any sarcasm. Well, what say you?

One sided 'toners" do nothing for me. The pretty obverse on that coin can't make me change my mind.

Ganymede money. First time I've heard that one.
Ponying up sure isn't going to bring down the prices on those sweet CRO coins anytime soon. My experience is that they're still worth it.
Joy, dancing and ecstasy are priceless, +/- a few bucks.

I like it, although all that really matters is if you like it.
And at the end of the day if you are satisfied with the ownership of it, it really doesn't matter what you paid.
Unless, of course, you dipped into the mortgage for it.
Then we have another topic to discuss, lol (or as the new internet acronym I think I invented would be more appropriate than "lol" : "ltys"...laugh to yourself silently.)

LOL. Nope, Roadrunner never got burned on a gem 1949-s Franklin in the 1980's, or any decade for that matter. I don't think I've ever owned one above a MS63 grade, and certainly not a toner like this one. Very nice coin which looks quite strong for the grade. In fact, if you look across from Mr. Franklin's nose in the right obverse field, you can make out a mint-made "watermark" of sorts where he is giving all the toner objectionists out there the Franklin "finger." I love it! Bo and Ben both know toners.

Nice thread. Nice coin. I too also paid Ganymede money for a CRO coin recently......... and I don't really care.
Remember, it's all a matter of perspective. From my perspective that's a FINE lookin' '49-S Frankie!!!
U.S. Type Set
I love it. I have many times contemplated purchasing a 1949-S Franklin---the key to the series. The pretty color and OGH/CAC combo makes this gem extra tasty, in my book.
An old antiques trader who dealt in just about every collectible known once told me:
"Something this pleasant to the eyes will be painful to the pocketbook."
And so it goes........

Hmm... There's 2 Post Offices on Uranus?
Seriously if you've paid attention to the EB's over the last year or more JA has been listing way more $100-300 really neat-o coins that might seem a bit meaty at first glance. However he did the leg work to find something special when it comes to each that your not likely find again any time soon. There's been quite a few times I've logged into my email a bit too late and IMHO felt someone faster got a really great deal.
Secondly I've never bought anything from CRO that didn't get glanced at in pure awe dozens of times upon arrival before finally venturing to reside in my SDB.
Bursting color, S-mintmark, green bean, ogh, what is not to like? Nice addition to your collection C'bert!
