When I try to PM someone why am I seeing their other PMs?

OuthaulOuthaul Posts: 7,440 ✭✭✭✭✭

I went to PM another member on the BS&T and when I clicked on their name to message them I saw all of the PMs of others. I've never seen that.

Of course, at least I know that my offer wouldn't have been any good.

Cheers

Bob

You're probably seeing the messages that were mistakenly put on their "wall". Be careful that you are sending a PM and not posting to their wall. Think of this new forum software as having features similar to Facebook. Once you post to another user's wall, only that user can delete that message. When you connect to another user's public profile, to keep your personal messages private, only use the message link to the right of their name. Don't send private or personal messages by using the text box under the header ACTIVITY

Because you are not actually sending a PM. I wrote a thread about this quirk in the system and alerted PCGS to it, as well, and they also wrote a thread that might have been pinned to the top for a few days.

A hackneyed phrase we offered in engineering all the time was, "that's not a bug, it's a feature."

But it's entirely accurate here. Each member has private messages and also a public wall. If you want privacy send a PM. If you want the world to see it, post to their wall.

Read coindeuce's post carefully to get it right.

Frankly, I don't see much benefit to the wall. Maybe our hosts ought to get it removed to save us from ourselves.

I gave up on it long ago.

I agree, I don't see any use for the wall feature.

Got it. And I agree; the wall should be left to Pink Floyd, not the forum.

    Thanks for the help.
