Perhaps not if white coins are your thing
We need a photo of the upgraded coin to compare
I don't, coin is beautiful.
It would be tough to sell a duplicate, I have contemplated doing so but have never sold a coin, not even a duplicate.
Perhaps I will in the near future to streamline and consolidate.

Such chaff needs discarding!
Is/was this a TDN coin?
"She comes out of the sun in a silk dress,
running like a water color in the rain...."
Yes that's TDN's baby.
Hopefully he describes his soul searching departure method to us mere mortals who own lesser duplicates we can't seem to part with?
Ha Ha.
Selling an upgraded coin from a collection is ALWAYS difficult, since the collector obviously LIKED the "discarded" coin originally!
I had a painful time selling an AU-55 Type 1 SLQ once....and that isn't exactly a classic rarity.
That is one reason I do not sell coins....
Cheers, RickO
OMG!!! I would love to have that problem!

My duplicates are always for sale, but I'll consider holding onto them once I have one of everything.

can that coin be upgraded would be the question.
I recall it being mentioned when he bought the "upgrade." I have a tough time selling some of my duplicate widgets. I clearly live in a very different world. Lol

Agreed, just upgraded this one a PR66 CAM...

For this one, a PR67 CAM and am not quite sure how I'm going to let the first one go.

I did not bid on the new coin in the Pogue sale because as you can imagine I was quite happy with the coin that I had. It wasn't until I later saw the MS66 at the ANA show that I fell in love and simply HAD to have it.
It is if one takes a big hit.
I prefer the first coin!
Me Too! Of course it's all in how the pictures were taken. I hardly think TDN would give up the eye appeal the 1st one has over the 2nd in the pictures if the 2nd wasn't nicer in hand!
The second is the most amazing early silver coin that I've ever seen. The luster dances in hand
Saw that at the ANA - amazing coin!
I'm a peon, but my opinion is that I could stare at the second coin a lot longer than the first. Colors are pretty, but distracting.
Nothing but luster and random nature on the second one.
"With the lights out, it's less dangerous"
Both coins are amazing in their own way.
"A dog breaks your heart only one time and that is when they pass on". Unknown
Both coins are very nice. This variety has been on my want list for several years in Choice EF or AU for several years. Both of these coins are too nice for me, but given a choice, I would take second using the photos as a guide.
I am not a big fan of the colors on the first one. The colors look too bright to me, but that's just me. They look like they have been juiced in the photo.
No way I'd sell that coin. Wow

I would not keep both. That's too much money tied up in something that could be turned into another interesting coin or coins.
Modcrewman, I actually like the satiny luster of your first coin a little better!
The upgrade is nicer in hand than the images (the luster is superb) plus it is visually a better "fit" in TDN's collection of early dollars. The duplicate is almost too colorful when you look at the coins as a set. Wonderful upgrade to a set that is nearly impossible to improve.
If I had his kind of cash; I would keep both.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Yeah if you ask me Twin Sons is reason enough to do two early dollar sets!

I like color, but would take the second one. Of course I would sell them both and buy ALL the Dimes missing in my Complete set. With the money left over I would buy all the missing Nickels in my new Nickel. With the money still left I would start a bunch of NEW sets. It's fun to dream.
What a strike!

What? No sticker on that slab?
It's like selling the Ferrari to make room for the Lamborghini in the garage...... Both are spectacular.
Absolutely. It is the STRIKE!
It better display's Liberty's huge ...um.... symbolism.
Both coins are stunning. After seeing the GIF, I can definitely agree that the luster of the 2nd trumps the color of the 1st.
What an amazing, historical collection you have assembled!

Those shots were taken in direct sunlight - which tends to wash out luster.
