The day my grandmother was born. She would have been 100 today. Lost her to cancer years ago, but still miss her like it was yesterday.

I always thought it was really cool mercury dimes and walking liberty half dollars, my two favorite designs, made their debuts on her birth year.

In honor of her 100th birthday, show me your 1916's.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

  • My grandmother was born May 8,1916. She died in 2007 at the age of 91 from Alzeimers. Long life but a nasty way to have to leave. It is a horrible horrible disease not only for them but for the families that have to go through it with them. I still miss that old woman every day too.

My mother, who lived to be 95, died of dementia, but she really died at 93. She could not speak or effectively react to the world for the last two years. It was terrible for everyone. She was financially secure, but I shutter to think what would be for a family who isn't. The cost of care is substantial. As the doctors told my wife and I, they can keep the body going but not the mind.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Sorry about your Mom, Bill, and your grandmother, luvcoins123. Didnt mean for my thread to bring up any tough memories of lost loved ones. All forms of dementia are horrible for all involved.
