Depends on which of the gold coins... I had one of the 1861 $20 Confederate Gold pieces not long ago and that sold very quickly at a nice premium.
We also do gold versions of our Glendale Coin Club medals that Dan makes for us and when one comes up on the market they also sell pretty fast... but them coming up for sale is pretty rare as most members keep them if they buy them.
Perhaps because they are not coins but medallions, and traditionally medallions do not sell as well as coins.

What do you mean by "sell as good on secondary market"? I follow the 1 ounce gold pieces and they all seem to sell at healthy premiums over intrinsic value. They don't usually last long when they are available.
That being said, there are less gold collectors in general.
Yeah. Most of his gold does very well if and when one comes up. People don't realize how much of his stuff stays in owners hands for long periods of time. I really wanted to get every octagon gold owl he produced last year but my budget was packing when they were released unfortunately

I'm still wondering if a 2016 gold octagon will be available!
I agree some pieces are just very hard to find. I never seen a gold Denver Mint Centennial or LSCC 40th anniversary medal for sale.

Good question. My business ebbs & flows in terms of cash flow and I'm in an ebb right now so unfortunately again, if they do I'm skunked especially with the holidays. As is I might only be able to get 1 or 2 of the dmpl Morgans unless I hit a big score or sell off something
Yes, that's 1 of the 2. Only 2 gold ounce pieces being offered for sale now is tiny compared to how many have been minted overall.
Is your point that it's not selling well? That's offered at a healthy premium to intrinsic value and may be offered by strong hands. Pieces offered this way are not restricted to Dan's pieces.
Look I wasn't wanting to argue with anybody I watch eBay every day and search Daniel Carr newly listed items and I have noticed his gold sells sometimes below issue price just asked question ! Love all of dans work ! some of you understand some of you want to take issue
Some of Dan's gold pieces occasionally sell below issue price when they are available, but I think that's due to the fact that there are fewer gold collectors.
For more specialized pieces with thinner markets, strong hands are needed to hold out for strong prices.
The Law of Supply and Demand is ruthless. Excluding changes in bullion prices, once the supply is fixed, if demand increases, the price will increase. If demand decreases, the price will decrease.
I can remember when Toivo Johnson medallions were in high demand.

Yes, that's 1 of the 2. Only 2 gold ounce pieces being offered for sale now is tiny compared to how many have been minted overall.
And... it's sold now. As mentioned, Dan's 1 oz gold pieces generally for healthy premiums over intrinsic value, here $2,495 vs. $1,275. Since there can be fewer collectors, sellers need to hold out for higher prices. This is true of any area with fewer collectors, including patterns, SCDs, etc.

That octagonal gold piece is really nice.... I have not seen them come up on ebay... probably need to watch more closely instead of checking bi-weekly.... Cheers, RickO
The only DC gold I own are two of the 2015 1\10 ounce pieces.
Only 52 were minted, They were affordable at $180.00.
The detail (for being so small) is Amazing.
My 2015 1\10 also have the Eagle Reverse.
I did get a few of the 1\10 ounce Silvers with the owl reverse, also have the Octagon with the owl.

new project that he doesn't need - dcarrfacts.com (it doesn't have to be organized like coinfacts)
although the web site has past issues and a minting log, it'd be nice to have it organized into a single page for an issue, or even a single class of coins of a single issue e.g. all 2016 Clark Gruber Gold Eagles on a single page and the Gold Owls on another, or a table with issue names and clickable & hoverable icons showing the picture of each ... and grouped by year...
prying the mintage figures net mintage kept for himself would likely be a challenge. sshhhhh.
but would we rather have this or more stuff? more stuff, right?
I happen to think Daniel Carr's 1000 amero ( 1 oz) gold token is incredibly underpriced as the mintage is only 15 for each year! Yet his price is less than 20% above the bullion value of gold.

That will not last.
I already melted one set, so 14 remain. I have one other set that I might melt as well (yes I need to update my mintage table to reflect that).
Dan has made some stunning gold club medals in addition to that of the Glendale Coin Club. Here is the one for the Liberty Seated Collectors Club (LSCC)...

Just melted one other set. So the final mintage is 13 for each of the five 2012-2016 1000-Ameros 1-troy-oz gold.
my point at start thread = Why does it seem DC gold coins do not sell as good on secondary market ? opinions please
Several possible reasons were provided above and some do sell for healthy premiums.
I'm not sure what the two items you posted were to indicate. You don't mention the gold pieces that do sell for premiums and there are even more silver and copper pieces being offered. As in any market, some pieces have more demand than others.
Comments
Less demand. Most people can't/won't afford them.
They are expensive and the premium over melt value is quite high.

Of course there is a lot more of a market and aftermarket for the silver - all about what more people can afford.

I only see 2 gold 1 oz medals.
In general, "carr gold" returns 27 items and "carr silver" returns 219 items.

The thinner the market, the more likely it is that a one-day auction will sell at a lower price than expected.
I knew it would happen.

Here's a nice Daniel Carr gold piece from 2014. Never seen one offered for sale!
I only cornered 1/7 of the market that year.

i have all the gruber half eagles. i never intend on selling them.
Ditto. I like the progress Dan has shown with these as they improve each year! Also they are naturally a bit less than the 2.5 or 1.0 Oz companions...
Well, just Love coins, period.
