Russ Stringham "Russ" Has passed away.
Hello Members,
I wanted to pass along some very sad news that I received this morning. Russ passed away on Monday October 17th. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Anyone that is currently bidding on his eBay auctions, a very close friend of his Sandy will be handling them. If you have any questions for Sandy she has asked that you please reach out to her through Russ's email sales@rescoccc.com
Rest in peace Russ.. You will be missed!

This was one of his favorite varieties (the other was the 1964 Accented Hair Kennedy). We were trying to get recognition in the Cherrypickers guide - he was putting together a box of 20.

for those newer members who don't know, Russ came here devoid of almost all Numismatic knowledge and asked all the right questions, learned quickly, focused on a small area of the Hobby and became one of its foremost contributors. he single handedly altered the PCGS pops on certain issues and varieties. he had a sharp wit and could say in ten words what it takes most of us a paragraph or two to say. he taught many of us, myself included, a lot about coin photography, changed gears in his business life and moved along.
he will be missed.

Russ was a big guy.....stood 6' 5"...never met him in person.....must have been a presence at the coin shows.
We had some great phone conversations over the past 8 years.

Of all the crusty, opinionated, ambitious, and very unforgettable people on the forum, he is at the top of the list.
I said before that one of my regrets was not being close enough geographically to ....HOPE.... to partner up with him and do some pretty great things.
He sold coins for me and I appreciated every comment he made, even if it was a jibe or taunt.
One of a kind.
Damn, this is sad news. I can't find an obit, but it's a sad day for me.
I remember him from IPOTAD days.
Dammit! I already feel like part of our family is gone.
I had the highest regard for him. He never minced words and that's a damn rare quality.

I'm pretty sure Russ and I joined the PCGS boards within a few weeks of one another.
In the early days he was quite proficient in his posts and always quite informative.

Russ was mostly into modern coins, and I'm into the older stuff, but his posts were always interesting. I am sorry to here this, and I will miss him although he had not posted that much here in recent years.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?0 -

He will be sorely missed. He was the IT specialist on the OFR and was one of the three admins. A great sense of humor, and would always give as good as he got. Farewell old friend.

Some years back, I drove to Northern Washington and had planned on stopping in Kent to meet Russ. My schedule got really tight on I drove straight home.
I'm sorry now that I didn't stop since Russ was always very intriguing and his posts were bone breaking truth. No BS, just honest to god truth.
So far, October has really sucked in the Numismatic Community what with the passing of Herb Hicks and now Russ.

Stray thoughts, in no particular order:
The first giveaway I ever won here was an accented hair from Russ.
Russ always left a little bit of a cigarette so the homeless would take them and keep the butt can clean.
He had an epic feud with "BiddlesBank" a few years ago.
He'd run for office once or twice, and lost.
Did a bungee jump and posted the video here.
He was a unique character, irreplaceable, and will be missed. A fixture at the OFR. We're in shock, and generally going, "Huh? How can this be?" Like the ground suddenly shifted and won't ever move back to where it should be.

Wow, RIP our old friend Russ, your fine contributions have been missed these past few years, and now are gone forever..
I suppose all of our times are up someday, but it's always a surprise when someone specific leaves our community too soon.

Wow, life can really be great sometimes, and sometimes it can really hit you in the head with a sledgehammer. This day is one of those sledgehammer days. My most sincere condolences to his family. I did biz with him a few times while putting my Kennedy half set together, and each time it was flawless, just as one would expect from him. A sad day for the forums to lose such a valued member.

An exemplary voice from the past . . . I am so sorry. he contributed so much here and educated many. I did some business with him years ago and his professionalism led the way on the Boards.

Very sad indeed. I remember whenever he first came on the boards and his shop window was broken out with some of his coins stolen. He posted a list and I replaced them all. He was a great guy!
