I can only see a portion of the obverse......

The lighting direction (from the bottom up and top down) surely enhances that scratch. I'll bet it would barely appear in a photo were the lighting directions opposite.

Still, it would be helpful to see the entire coin to answer your question.

The lower half is quite nice.

Well within 63 standards and maybe a bit better.

I only cropped it to keep the guy's auction from being tainted by my post.

The scratch was my first notice.

A grader would only need to see the top half.

    I think I splained it.

TRY to consider the bottom as being as nice as the top but sans scratch.

    I don't quite understand.

Do you mean for a coin to get a detail grade due to a scratch, it has to have two scratches, one at the top of the coin and the other at the bottom?

I've got coins scratched worse than this with CAC stickers... but none in MS.

Unpossible to tell from that picture.

I don't think so. Considering all the MS63 gold coins they don't sticker that are perfectly acceptable to most of us, I don't know why this should get better treatment with a scratch, some scuffs, etc. A smaller scratch would fly. CAC goes by original and choice surfaces first, then luster, then marks. Great luster and originality can overcome some obvious marks.

There's such a small spread on these coins from 63 to 64, that a sticker almost doesn't matter.

The only way that coin should get stickered is if the owner buys a banana and takes the sticker off of that and puts it on the slab!

Funny - I never even noticed the scratch as I was completely taken aback by Liberty's cheek

No, it should not. No sticker is going to take away the second thoughts going on in your mind, would it?

I agree with TDN... the first thing I saw was the cheek...and even after I saw the scratch, I kept coming back to the cheek...no sticker. Cheers, RickO

CAC does not want any problems coming back to them if they sticker them.

I wouldn't think this will sticker

Only if the luster and color are well above average. Then the scratch might not be so distracting. Are we sure that the scratch is on the coin?

I agree, that scratch might keep it from stickering. image

You should put the full picture of BOTH SIDES up there if you want honest opinions. Like TDN I was drawn to the black mark on Ms. Liberty's chin first, and that alone should keep it from getting a sticker.

As common date 63 it could easily sticker assuming the balance of the coin is very nice.

No, not the black mark but rather the fact she looks black face painted. Complete lack of luster all over the portrait.

If that piece, which is graded MS-63, gets a green sticker, this one, which is also graded MS-63, should get a gold sticker.

PCGS has graded some of these Liberty $2.50 gold coins really tough. I would have tried for an upgrade on this one, except for the fact that there is no money it. There's not much of a price difference between MS-63 and 64.

I think that it's logical that an MS 63 coin will sticker before an MS 66 coin will because it's expected to have more issues, that's why it's an MS 63. That said, now the question becomes what kind of problems does the coin have. In this case a scratch and some "black stuff" on the cheek. I'd expect the scratch on an MS 63 coin so depending on what you (and CAC) thinks the black stuff might be might determine whether it gets beaned.

I'd think based upon the pictures provided that it indeed should get a bean.

Bill Jones coin should be a slam dunk for a green bean and a coin worthy of gold bean consideration in an MS 63 holder.
