Went to my 1st coin club meeting in over 30 years

claychaserclaychaser Posts: 4,406 ✭✭✭✭
I recently moved to northern Colorado, and decided to attend the monthly meeting of the Fort Collins Coin Club. I was a little apprehensive about it, as the meeting is held at a funeral home, but that part was fine as it is in an adjoining reception room with a kitchen area - I guess its used for wakes and such.

Very friendly group and a lot of interesting coin talk. Dan Carr showed up, as his facility is in nearby Loveland.

I would recommend it to anyone in the area.

Just got back home from that. Nice meeting you there.
This meeting was a little lighter in attendance than normal, probably due to the holiday weekend.

One of the things I look forward to each month is my local coin club meeting.

I miss going to my monthly meetings in Glendale. Now that I have moved the local club meets on Saturdays and it seems like every month I have a conflict.

I need to head up to Fort Collins some time for that meeting. Was at the new Denver coin/gem show tonight instead.

Well, Claychaser, it's about time you went to a coin club meeting!

Local coin clubs are one of the backbones of the hobby.

Congrats and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

    P. S. Don't wait another 30 years until you attend your next meeting! LOL!

I look forward to my local club meetings too. Many of these local clubs are better than you think.

Many years ago I asked a well known, local advanced collector to speak to a local club in New Jersey. At first he said, "Oh their are just a bunch small collectors who aren't interested in anything but Lincoln pennies and Buffalo nickels." He spoke anyway, and when he was done he commented, "I really enjoyed it."

It's possible for collectors of all levels to get something out of the local club meetings. For me it's fun to introduce collectors to coins that they have never seen in person.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
