    45 here too and the color doesn't do much for me. Is it as dark as the images suggest?

    its all there. perhaps a bit dark for some, then again it hasn't been dipped to death as many so-called "original" 174 year old coins have been.
    regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything

    XF45. The right color for unmessed with 170 year old silver. 75-85% of these in holders are lighter because of dipping/light cleanings. Only minute traces of luster in the crevices. As long as it's not ED'd I'd call it choice XF. It's a sad day when 100% original surfaced coins aren't "market acceptable."

    Not sure what to make of that reverse wing defect? Mint made polished area, PMD, or both?

    1947-P & D; 1948-D; 1949-P & S; 1950-D & S; and 1952-S.
    Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!

    NGC gave it an AU53. The detail is there.

    Maybe I'll have to crack it out, dip it so it's nice and shiny, and submit it to PCGS.

    I have one with the same general look. I think the "charcoal grey" coins look better in person than in pictures. They don't seem to "pop" in photos, while they look quite sharp in hand.

    Nice grade on that one. That answers the question about any reverse post-mint damage.

    regardless of grade, its a really nice coin, the only thing that would make it nicer is if the date digits were just a touch smaller
