Nice ones for sure and they all look like they should grade at or about your guesses.

Yeah, blown up, the middle band looks 'iffy' for a full split..But, maybe with X-5, it'll fly?

I would guess 64 no FB on the 45-S as well.

It's a crap shoot. Under my 5x loupe and moving the coin around, it looks FB. If it doesn't make FB, it won't be the end of the world, but if it does, my $10 I have into the coin will be incredible..

I go Merc, MS64, No FB

    1886, MS64

    1898-O, MS64

    1902-O Machine Damage

I hope I am terribly wrong or it will be a total waste of a 4 coin voucher. Since those are regular service, I usually try and send in coins that are worth more than $50 to $150.

I'll root for you and against me.

See scuffs, no machine damage. Weakly struck above ear and breast feathers. Still should 65 IMO.

Looks like counting machine damage to me. I would not have sent it in anyway. If a common date morgan will not at least go 65, you are wasting your money. You can buy 64's already in the holder for 70 bucks, and they are guaranteed to grade!!! How much were the raw coins? If they are $40 bucks, you are underwater forever if they do not go 65.

I am used to seeing machine damage on some of the many Redfield's I own. Hope I am wrong.

If I didn't think they would go 65 or better, I would not have submitted them. I agree with you on submitting common Morgan's that are less than 65, it's a waste of money. In hand, the coins felt like they would go 65 or better, so I submitted them. As for how much I paid, I paid $40.00 for each of them. As far as being underwater on them, I don't think I will be. I got the PCGS membership specifically to submit that '83-CC. I figured I would send in coins that I would rather take a chance on using the voucher and save some of my other coins that I am a lot more confident on and and pay full money to get graded.

I had been sitting on these Morgan's for a few months now, wanting to get them graded. I just don't like having a dealer submit them for me. I'd rather be able to track my submission and not wait around wondering what is going on.

    my guesses

    merc- no idea. maybe 63

    1886 $ - 64 cool die clash

    1898 o - 64

    1902 o - 63

Your pictures do show hits/hairlines well. However, its hard to asses the luster of the coins in the pictures. IMO, luster is pretty important to a coins grade. Its nice to see the luster roll across the fields.

    Best of luck.

We all think our coins are a grade better than they are. Uncanny on how accurate that is. Especially when we first start submitting.

Your images seem overexposed and difficult to judge original luster. That is the only thing that will get these coins in 65 and above.

If you ask for opinions, be prepared to have thick skin. I tend to aim low since I can't fully judge the overall feel (Luster and eye appeal) of the coin in an image. It is human nature to use the best image of your coins also. So if you think 65, my money is on a 64. Now prove me wrong! I love it when I am since that means someone beat the game.

I have thick skin. The images are not overexposed, there is no clipping in the highlights at all. I just prefer to shoot Morgan's with an even light across the surfaces. Shooting them with the luster wedges as I call them leads to over exposure in those areas and leaves shadows that are hard to see hits in. Those images end up hiding things in the over exposed area's and underexposed areas. All images of Morgan's that I post have full luster, which again is why I shoot them in flat light. I will start shooting them with the luster wedges so you can see them. I can't shoot the coins I have posted as they are out of my hands now.

Beautiful photos and best of luck with the submission! I'll be curious to see the results when they come in. I think your grade expectations are pretty sound.

    Here are my thoughts:

    1) It is impossible to grade those coins from those pictures, because of the way the photos were shot.

    2) I do not see any machine damage on the 1902-O from the picture provide, so I bet it will grade just fine (not guessing a grade).

    3) To those of you who are hammering the OP about whether or not they grade 65 or better, being under water and blah blah blah, it is not always about the money. Can't someone simply enjoy the hobby for what it is?

I agree with Rampage about the grading. Clearly part of the fun is to try and grade a coin and then submit to see how accurate you might have been. While I agree with most posters that it's usually a waste of money there is also a long shot that one or two of the coins grade much higher then expected.

Good luck on the grades, I hope they all grade at or above your guesses.

Those are great coins... and I think your grade guesses are fairly accurate... and, in addition,

I do believe the Merc will go FB...Again, very attractive coins, so much nicer with no tarnish.

    Cheers, RickO

    .

cool coins and thanks for the closure!

images and presentation, i give ya 90%. the color is not good for these beauties, the merc is kind of the exception; darn 99% fb mercs. captures the good luster and the friction that held back the grade.

i do poorly with unc merc imaging. embarrassingly so. toners, not so bad. blazing uncs, yikes. lol

getting ms65 morgans is a pretty good level to play at. image
