Crappy dealer website pictures

For the life of me I cannot understand why some dealers invest thousands into a website and then post crappy and inconsistent images of every coin which they offer.
Im sure that the added expense and increase in time to market is inconvenient but really, is this not a requirement in the days the internet to post no imagination required pictures of basically every coin over say $500.

I totally agree...even on cheaper coins. And stock pics should not even be allowed!
the process turns out, is pretty easy from imaging to uploading.
10-20 quality coin images a day is so easy it is not even worthy of mention.
i mean it is seriously, ridiculously easy.
cant believe it took me so long with my dslr but with the advent of 5 & 6 gen camera phones, a lil practice and they do a darn good job. better than crappy pics anyway.
.
I can think of two or three well known dealers whose photos are ridiculously bad.
I consigned a coin to one of them allowing use of a very sharp photo. He said he did not like my photo and took one of his own.
It was lousy, as usual with very little definition.

Sometimes they use scans instead of photos. While scans may be time-saving, they are revenue-wasting. I totally agree that in today's day and age good photos are not hard to learn with little practice. It amazes me that a lot of sellers on ebay still use scans. The money that one would spend on a good photo setup would be repaid within a few sales. Small details on items such as coins could be very important to potential buyers. A poor photo or scan can leave doubt in a potential buyers eye.

This is true. How many of us have passed, or held a bid back a little bit, on a coin we want or need because we cannot "complete the picture" in our mind? I know I have.
And even worse is when a dealer is asking STRONG money for a coin with said crappy pictures. I guess it doesnt matter; they own the coin
You guys know who you are. Stop using pictures that make one wonder what the coin really looks like in hand.
Dealers with great photos include Doug Winter, CRO, and Harlan Berk.

I hesitate to buy a coin with a very bad photo.

And Dave Wnuck, Tom Bush, Pinnacle, Mike Kittle, and a few others. After that there are a huge number who have decent photos, including the majority of those who visit here.
Most do not have the talent.
Most WILL not pay for someone else's talent.
I still trust verbal descriptions from certain dealers more than even the best photos. Besides, since I don't buy sight unseen I'm going to base my final decision on the coin in hand anyway.
Photography takes talent.

And some of us pay twice as much for crappy talent, but that will lead me to politics and religion, so I shall remain silent.

DAMN the morons who think customers should select the METAL first and then look for the coins.
others need a good picture or I will not even bother. Cheers, RickO
