Rare Coin Wholesalers

GazesGazes Posts: 2,315 ✭✭✭✭✭
I was looking at their inventory and it seems huge compared to other dealers (some very nice coins). Is this one dealer or do they sell coins from multiple dealers on their site? Also, I assume from the prices that it is retail and not true wholesale prices. Thanks

Lots of "high brow" coins on their site.

You can do as you please by posting this here, but don't be surprised or disappointed if your declaration of scoring on RCW gets back to them, and it alters the relationship you thought you had with them. To me, it just shows your lack of judgement of how small the coin community really is.

I'm sure they made a few bucks when they sold it to you also image

I've always been impressed with their inventory and they are pleasant to chat with.

I can appreciate coins in their inventory, but I don't buy those kind of coins since they are 8 levels beyond me.

I'm not quite sure they should use the word Wholesale in their name though:

    CU Value: $95,000.00**
    Our Price: $119,500.00

I think the salient point is not so much what you said, but that you said it in an insulting way.

When you're dealing with RCW you're also dealing with the 13,000+ crackout inserts they turned in approximately a decade ago. I wonder how many more (and regrades/crossovers) have been added since then. And that's only what they officially turned in. I don't remember the exact counts but there's no doubt a thread from the old days on it with dozens of proof $3 golds, $4 stellas, and other "potent" coins.

I have only been able to buy from them once. It was an 1860-D $5 gold piece in MS-62, and it was quite nice. Usually though their prices seem to be so high from the beginning that it's not worth trying to negociate with them. Perhaps I'm wrong about that.

I'll say this though. They have had some of the most beautiful women working at their booth that I have ever seen at at coin show.

" And btw I realize pedigree collecting is as thin as the hair on my head but I still enjoy it and rarely have paid a premium. "

You seem to have summed it up pretty well yourself. If only you and a couple other guys care, and you won't pay a premium, how much more homework do you expect them to do? Maybe they already know that (having done their homework) and don't care to spend any more time or effort (i.e., money) trying to identify the one or two collectors who might pay a slight premium.

In all probability, you paid more than they did.

They bought it cheap ....the original seller to RCW took it in the pants

I really do not search out particular dealers unless they are running auctions for things I am interested in like MS69 ASE under x $ above melt.

If a particular issue I enter that in my search parameters (ebay).

As far as the dealer you mentioned I don't go buy what they supposedly do or don't do. I research the coin in CF it is either within what I pay or not. My ebay searches are usually for auction items or a search for lowest sell price on particular issue.
