My new Jefferson Nickel Cherry Pick

BigDowgieBigDowgie Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭✭
The prefect ebay storm........seller does not know what it is, the pictures are not good, no one else catches it and I take home the prize for less than a couple Latte's at Starbucks! Gotta' love it!

I'd say an MS64, later die state, but it's the 1943/2-P.

Realone - this one may help you see the 2 under the 3 a little better.

It takes a fair amount of looking and doesn't happen very often, but exciting when it does! It's all about my motto in life and coin collecting.....if you don't look, you will never find!

Excellent work! Hard to believe there are still sellers out there not checking for this stuff. Can you show the seller's picture, I'd like to see if I can pick up on what you saw there.

seanq - Now that we know for sure what it is, there are indicators that should have peeked some curiosity. This is the ebay picture.

Congrats Dowgie! Did you notice some doubling first, or the misshapen lower loop of the 3?

    Shag,

The little nub on the curl of the three was first. Though I know there are 1943's that have some die scratches there. Then pulled out my other examples and compared other marks and even the location of the P mint mark. You'd be surprised the varieties that can be identified by the position and location of the mint mark.

Hope to catch you at a show sometime!

Realone - You are supposed to see a '2' under the '3'.

Shag - The little blob at the curl of the 3 got my interest up. I had to compare to my other examples for similarities. Interesting, was comparing the location of the mint mark helped a bunch. I have done the mint mark characteristics and location to verify other varieties!

I once pointed out a 43-P DDO with the double eye in an off holder ATS years back. Someone over there bought it but had a tough time getting it crossed. Perhaps a member here?
Congrats to the BigDawge, he can find them.
