Lots of luster, a lil' dirty. Would you agree AU55, maybe 58? Higher or lower?

    I am seeing a lot of hairlines that would indicate a cleaning.

    Hard to determine without examining the coin if it would grade or not.

    Technical grade would be AU 50/53.

    Ditto the straight 53. Those hairlines really are consistent with actual pocket wear.

    Agree. Folks are way too quick to say, "cleaned" about coins.



    If it were a Large Cent, it would be referred to as "harshly cleaned".



    And if it were a pepperoni pizza, it would be referred to as "delicious"

    I would give it 53-55 and definitely not cleaned. Hairlines do not always come from cleaning.

    Too easy to 'hip shoot' a verdict. Cheers, RickO

    I would say cleaned too. Maybe it is just the photo lighting, but it looks a little too shiny for a circulated coin.

    AU-50 sharpness, cleaned. All of the little hairlines plus the bright surfaces have drawn me to that conclusion.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Coin to coin contact, especially with gold, creates hairlines. If the girl was in a free space for awhile they could add up.
    Hard to tell from the photos if the lines are proper random but I'd feel good about that one.
    AU 53.

    you should submit this coin...it would be so interesting to see the result.



    i think the light could be affecting people's opinions.



    when i saw the obverse, i thought, cleaned. but, when i saw the reverse i thought, that coin *may* grade 55 cause those hairlines could be just circulation wear being exaggerated by the photos. this is why you can't grade from photos.

    The obv. looks to be 40-45 but wiped with a cloth, the high points are too bright.

    The rev. looks to be 50-55 but without the cloth impairment.

    True View pics might clear this up.

    I suppose it goes to show how polarizing coins can be. We've got somewhere between 40 and 58, somewhere between original and cleaned. image
    I'd be good with 55 wiped. The cartwheel and frost is original and there is plenty of it. But there are a few hairlines.
