I don't understand what you're implying? Looks like a cleaned coin silently net graded. Do you think it's counterfeit?

Coin looks fine (well, what I can see given the shoddy pictures).

It may be an old cleaning net graded (as commoncents noted), but I don't see any red-flags...

Slab looks fine (from the 1990-95 era).

Hard to tell from those pictures, but looks like a cleaned AU. I would be suspicious of the whole thing also.

I couldn't say for sure what. It surely doesn't look like a VF 30 coin.

    I wouldn't touch it.

It seems to be ok...if you only glance at it and not too intently. If you plan on looking more frequently at...pass.

Looks legit. Looks like it could have graded higher, but I agree that it might have "net" graded.

Wonder if this might be the "poster child" for why silent net grading isn't a particularly good idea?

A grader with even minimum experience sees that technically, it's better than the holder says, so alarms go off creating confusion.

I never really liked silent netting. Sure, you get the coin closer to it's VALUE that way, but it tends to water-down what grading is all about.

Of course, back in the green label days, PCGS didn't give themselves the option of explicitly netting a grade. It was either pass or fail, and this one was maybe viewed as a tweener.

The serial number 2926491 does not generate a link on the PCGS certification verification site. That says PASS to me in bold letters.

That's because you entered the incorrect cert number. The correct number is 9296491.

The "8" in the date looks funky. Maybe it's the angle the photo was taken at?

Being unfamiliar with this "net" grading, I have a question. On the older coins, do they "net" grade due to a cleaning without saying so on the label? Do they allow other marred features and then allow the coin to pass with a lower "net" grade? Is this a common practice on all coins or just older ones? I had heard they were a little more lenient with the older coins due to the length of time the coins have been in circulation, but not "net" grading. Thanks for this information.

I think it's the angle. Notice too that the cert characters do not appear as tall as they should be for this slab type. Everything would look proper with a square shot.

Net grading and market grading are sometimes used interchangeably though they are not exactly the same. Any coin may be net graded (usually down) when the TPG deems it to be over all acceptable but with an unfortunate issue(s). Some problem with the surfaces, e.g. Porosity or light corrosion on old copper. A washed out appearance from over-dipping silver. An old, toned-over scratch. A "busy" look from excessive hits. A significant dig or a major distraction in the focal area.

Market grading goes both ways but is less technical and more subjective. It is usually an appearance issue. Remarkably pretty toning or luster, or perfect surfaces, might earn the coin a grade bump. Splotchy, irregular unattractive toning might drop it. It is called market grading because it is based on the coin's value, as perceived by the TPG. Some folks believe that market grading is also influenced by collector demand (what's hot) but I really don't get that.

PCGS didn't use a 0 before the 7 digit number for that era holders.

Thanks Lance for the info. I had heard of market grading but thought net grading was only for coins damaged and was net graded after being rejected. My bad.

Body bags were still used when it was graded, certain issues on certain coins got a ride sometimes.

Yeah, net-graded for the overdipped appearance and other minor flaws, would be my guess. Not atypical for the series, so maybe it got a ride, as LindeDad just said.
