1964 10c Pointed 9 PR68DC

I sent some Accented hair 1/2$ in for Grading with the pointed 9 dime. The dime was Graded in PR68 Deep Cameo but failed to add the Pointed 9 on the slab. Can I send them back to have the Pointed 9 added to the slab? Also any ideas on what the value would be? I see alot of 67Cams not so many 68DC's.

Thanks

Rick

    I believe you have to submit it with the variety attribution and pay an extra $18 for the service.

    I'm certain someone will come along and explain the details who has done it before.

    Welcome the Forum.

    Pcgs does not offer 'pointed 9' designation on their slabs. The other 3 services will, but variety fees may apply. For PCGS to designate a variety or die, it must be in one of their approved books like CPG.

    It is my understanding the proof pointed 9 is much more common than the AH half, and does not demand a premium. The business strike pointed 9's for 1964 have a lower frequency in the population.

    The only Variety that PCGS recognizes at this time for Proof 1964 Dimes is the 1964 10C DDO FS-101

    NGC does differentiate between the Blunt and Pointed 9, but only as a description, not a variety plus (VP) number

    That one is Mint State and not a Proof, as mentioned in the OP. It says it all "Minor Variety". PCGS uses this whenever something is there but does not have a FS, Overton, etc... number assigned to it...hence the "V" with the ordinary 1964 dime number 5129.

    I have a couple of "Minor Varieties" myself which I thought were slam dunks; 1853 50C DDR "Minor Variety" and a 1936-D San Diego QDO "Minor Variety".

    It does not identify the "variety" on the certification lookup.

    According to NGC, there have been a couple of thousand;

    The tail of numeral 9 is squared off.

    Isn't the pointed dime normal for the AH half sets?

    Found in all sets containing AH halves, and also a whole bunch more.

    Yes I have only found the Pointed 9 in the AH sets. Proofs. The Blunt and Pointed MS is really random. The Pointed 9 proof is Much Rarer than his sister Blunt Proof.

    Thanks for all the feedback.image

    I am not sure about PCGS, but the Pointed 9 is much more common in NGC than the Blunt 9 as I posted a couple replies above;

    I agree. I have only found pointed nine proof dimes in Accented Hair sets - but not always. The best odds are when you find the corrugated envelopes....

    I have also had several pointed nine dimes slabbed - but never attributed. Sold a PCGS 68dcam in an OGH a couple of years ago - didn't get much of a premium. (probably more for the old holder than the fact it was a pointed nine).

    This variety doesn't get much respect - mostly because it isn't listed in the Cherrypickers Guide.

    And as far as the populations go, I'd expect to see more pointed nine dimes in holders. Why slab a common 1964 proof unless it was a high grade moose dcam? Blunt 9 proofs are very common.
