  No but I had one send out their inventory list in an excel spread sheet that contained hidden columns which contained their cost for each item which I verified by looking up some of the coins at auction history.

  No - my CPA did it once - highly embarrassing.

  I haven't done this, I use a mailing service so that doesn't happen.

  I've had a few dealers do this by accident... But it's happened more often when their email accounts are hijacked.

  This happened with one dealer I bought a coin from once and ended up on his list. When it happened I sent a note and they didn't seem too bothered by it which was the bigger surprise.

  Sounds kinda familiar ... I worked at an organization where my boss sent out a budget spreadsheet not realizing that MS Excel has "tabs." One of the tabs was a list of every employee's salary. You can imagine the topic of hallway conversations for the next several weeks!

  The LARGE semiconductor company (100,00+ employees) I worked for, sent out a file, by employee number, of how many shares of stock each person could buy under the employee stock plan. The number of shares are equal to 10% of the previous year compensation. A real quick math problem, and you could figure out everyone's pay, within about $300 for everyone at the company. I showed my boss, and he did not believe it at first. It was gone shortly thereafter.

  We also had a manager give the secretary the job of updating all the group email accounts. Part of it was to send out a new email to all addressees, requesting acknowledgement of receipt. People did not understand why suddenly they were not on the list, until later in the week, when the layoffs came.

  A very well known, well respected dealer had this happen to him with his list (cc email list instead of bcc email list) a few years ago. I know he was not happy about it, but do not know if it cost him any clients or proprietary information. Additionally, I do not know if any clients then found themselves on more email lists.
