Not really interested in putting a grade on it. My Dad bought this for like $35 when he graduated medical school in the 60's. He gave it to me to keep in the family. It would cheapen it to have it graded. ??
Beautiful coin. Was that your father's birthday, or did it have some significance to your father?
I bought myself a brand new Miata when I was in law school in the mid 90s. I haven't really driven it in 15 years, but I recently had the engine serviced, the top replaced and the leather seats recovered. While not a big piece of gold like your father's heirloom, I do look forward to passing it down to one of my kids one day.
But having the connection with your dad is the best. My dad died last year and left me some coins. Those are imbedded into my collection and will never be sold.
It is a beautiful Gem BU. I yearn for the old days before numerical grading, sticker game, etc.
Really impressive coin. I remember picking one about as nice (probably a 65-66), a 1907 Arabic Numerial $20 in a coin shop in 1969 paying around $85 as a kid right out of HS.
