...A Date, Which Will Live In Infamy.

I haven't noticed any threads on the boards today regarding the United States entry into WWII, but perhaps it, and the men and women who fought through that war, might be remembered with WWII-era coinage.

We watched the movie "Pearl Harbor" with the kiddies this evening. It's not terribly historically accurate, but still it's a decent introduction to the time & sentiment prevailing at the start of the US involvement in the war.
It might have started for us in Pearl Harbor, but it ended right here, on board the Mighty Mo, the last US battleship, where the unconditional surrender was accepted in Tokyo Harbor. How fitting that today, she lies berthed on Battleship Row on Ford Island, facing the Arizona Memorial.

Before going into the USS Arizona Memorial, we had to sit through a short movie about the events that lead up to the outbreak of war in the Pacific. I thought the movie portrayed the context in a balanced way. Despite my knowing quite a lot of the history of that period, and not having learned anything new from the movie, I found myself getting very emotional seeing footage of the attack and the deaths of so many American servicemen.
I go back to Oahu every few years, and each time I make a visit to Pearl Harbor.
