It is from the famous Jackson, Tennessee Gold Coin Hoard that was unearthed by a Jackson street crew in 1985. I purchased the piece from a friend who had obtained it soon after the hoard was found. One can see remnants of the Tennessee terra firma adhering to the surfaces.
Subsequent investigation of the hoard linked it to an 1859 robbery of the Jackson Branch of the Union Bank of Tennessee, during which a bank clerk was brutally murdered. The images are courtesy of BluCC Photos.
