Buying a coin contingent on crossing....and it upgrades?

I have agreed to buy coins from dealers contingent that they cross them to PCGS first. Based on the coin I sometimes pay for the coin ahead of time as I want the coin, crossed or not. In other cases it really needs to be PCGS. The fees for the cross are always paid for by me.
The question becomes: What if your coin upgrades and jumps considerably in value? Has anyone been in this situation or could give their opinion of how that scenario should play out?

Saw a mid 5 figure coin I was interested in. Told the dealer if you gets this crossed, ill be interested. (coin was nice, shouldn't have had no problem crossing, but I didn't have the insurance to cover to pcgs and back) dealer would have been willing to sell at a slight discount prior, but once it crossed and actually upgraded, they honored the original price (with out discount of course) which I was fine with.

On a much smaller scale , I have sold coins to customers at x price, only for them to have me send them in and it comes back better that I expected. its a done deal IMO. sometimes I think, I should have sent it my self, but a happy customer is worth more to me in the long run.
The only time I had any sort of a contingent deal about grading was with a 1795 half cent. The coin was raw, and I wanted it graded for my registry set. The coin was an easy AU-58. The only question was whether or not it would go into an error holder because it had a tiny planchet clip. If it was marked as an error (clipped planchet) I didn't want it at the dealer's price because the error holder would lower the value.
The deal was I would buy the coin at the dealer's price if the coin came back with a straight grade. It did come back with the straight grade, and it is now in my collection.

I have done this a few times with raw coins, having an agreement with the seller for me to buy it, slab it and go from there. If it slabs without problems I'll keep it and absorb the fees. If it comes back with "details", I would still absorb the fees, but return the coin within the holder.

This is something you address, preferably in writing, before the coin goes in for grading.
