I was in Paris for 9/11. I'm in NYC now where I'm living. Washington Sq is one of my absolute favorite places in the world and the history with France here is obvious. Lafayette and Washington are woven together forever. Steps from my apartment. mark

Same here. I flew in right after the attacks. T3 was full on French troops. We normally stay in Bercy but that was too close to the attacks so we are hanging out near the airport. The northern arrondissements are unsafe as far as I'm concerned. The day after the city's streets are eerily empty and quiet. It saddens me to see the degradation of this fine city over the past decade.

I'm glad we've moved past all that "Freedom Fries" and "Surrender Monkeys" silliness of a decade or more ago.
Indeed, France was very instrumental in our independence from Great Britain. We paid the debt back in WWI and WII.
Having travelled to Paris several times I absolutely love the place. Good food, good museums, good coin shops, good museums. And that "joie de vivre" that makes the city of Paris so pleasant.
