NEN has a $50 pan-pac octagonal NGC unc details.
You have to own it, one way or another: Keep it improperly cleaned/nicked or pocket piece it down to a legit XF+?

Personally I would pocket piece it. Have two in my pocket tonight....it works and just takes time. But the cleaning can't be too deep.

I keep the Stella in the same pocket with my keys.

Unless the cleaning was downright atrocious (it doesn't seem so) t'd resubmit it once or twice.

You could get that to a legit AU with some Deller's and some pocket rub I would think.
Deller's Darkener is for use on nickels and won't work on gold or silver coins.

Agree. It's too heavy for a pocket piece and with the corners you'd have to be careful not to hurt yourself. Also, it'll wear a hole in your pocket.

I'd buy it at $10,000 in a heartbeat. NEN is asking close to $50,000 though.

Agree - should be easy to repair. Nice option vs. keeping it as is or wearing it down. I would never wear that down to XF+. That would be a huge disservice to the community.

More accurately, there's a price and demand curve. The supply of this particular coin is one.
It's tough to value "problem" coins such as this. What's a fair net grade?
Of course we'd all buy it "at melt", and most of us at $10k, but so far, no takers at $50k
For reference, price guide has
VF30= $43k, EF40= $46k, AU50= $50k, AU55= $55k, MS60=59.5k
A dream coin in any grade for most collectors, no way this can rationally "net" lower than VF, could it?
