No preview box as you can see. Using IE8.

Still have to use those break codes too.

    On, hey... Here's an improvement.

I just found the drop-down menu for the emoticons is now alphabetically arranged. image

FINALLY! For fourteen years, the fact that it wasn't irked me, but that was such a nitpicky issue I didn't want to complain about it.

But if we're splitting microscopic hairs, here, I'll add that the "argument" emoticon is still misspelled "arguement" (sic) in the menu. image

Also improved is that one can insert an emoticon anywhere the cursor is, now, without it having it appear at the bottom regardless of where you were trying to put it.

And the new quotation boxes are superior to the old italicized stuff with caret symbols before and after.

    Alphabetized emoticons. image

A new feature I like; now the ignore user option means you don't have to waste earth time seeing threads started by trolls.

On another note, last weekend pms came in emails only. Now I get pms and no emails which is just fine.

Here's a funny issue I found last night.

If someone sends you a PM of just an emotion (maybe a photo or any image..not sure) then you will see

in the upper left under "Private Messages" that you have a blank PM but you won't be able to click on it.

You have to go into Private Messages and mark it as read to make it go away.

Since I was one of the most vocal complainants about the late, unlamented captcha nightmares (may they roast in Hades), it is only fair to keep listing some of the improvements I like.

I like the new subtitle line for threads. since I've been historically prone to longwinded, overbloated thread titles in the past. image

    Not seeing this.

It happens to me as well, but not from everyone. I have received an email/PM from SeattleSlammer but not from another person (of an item I bought from him on the BST). I received another email/PM from someone about a recent thread but only a PM from someone else on that same thread that I PM'ed them about.

So, I wish I could STOP receiving email/PMs and just receive PMs.

No offense to any, but there is almost nobody that I want an email/PM from...a PM suffices. image

Agree...no offense to anyone but I get enough emails already. Besides that I check in here enough to see my PMs in good time.

If anyone is listen please let us option out of this...

    Thanks

As a non-prolific and somewhat techno-challenged poster I have had some difficulties in the couple I have tried.

    Paragraphs.

    Going to the right.

Losing posts before the are posted.

Logging in. Yes, logging in. I had stuff collapsed this morning and couldn't find the login button for a while. This is elementary to most, but I bet that some have not posted because of this.

This is an edit, and paragraphs show on my screen, but not the posted screen.

Another edit, and added another "paragraph." I guess that I will be limited to one-liners.

there is a logout button when stuff is collapsed, but no login button. (tried the br method for line breaks, didn't work).

Time for a bump, as a bunch of stuff seems broken in the last 12 hours...

    - avatar, if you try to upload a new one or select a stock one uoibgwy error 113 and then you can't change your avatar to anything. Look at mine.

    - posting images that have an https instead of http starting strings results in the system converting it to some weird string.

Those are the two most concrete problems I've repeated on different systems and browsers.

It would be nice if the posts were formatted in WYSIWYG. I like to break posts up into 2 or 3 short line paragraphs, but they come out in one homogeneous lump. :grrr
  • illini420illini420 Posts: 11,506 ✭✭✭✭✭
Whenever posting in the quick reply box at the bottom of a thread, my posts come out looking like I type them. No problems with line breaks or anything like that.

But if I post a new thread, or go back and edit any other thread that previously was formatted fine, it all comes out jumbled together in a single large paragraph and all my line breaks and photos go away.

Also, I'm no longer able to post photos in private messages using the IMG tag that previously was the way to do it.

Hopefully these issues get resolved and/or the forum admins come up with a tutorial on how to use this new forum software. Until then, I think we'll be losing some good info/content here.

When you have a text box open for the purpose of composing text, you'll notice a message along the left margin stating "HTML code is not permitted. Special symbols permit some HTML functionality."

I've discovered quite by accident, that one can space lines of text by alternating the use of the HTML code for paragraph, and the HTML code for break at the end of individual sentences. The codes for these functions are simply either the letter p or the letters br enclosed by the "carrot" keys to the left of the question mark key. Looks complicated, but as long as you don't use the same code after successive sentences, it will work. Going by what illini420 claimed above, the quick reply text box still functions in WYSIWYG, but the "long form" reply box for added functionality allows for and requires limited HTML code to get desired formatting.

OK, I can now confirm a specific issue, not a fluke...

the [ IMG ] tag requires an "http" URL inside of it that has a file name, something that ends in a jpg or gif or png.

If you put a URL inside the IMG tag that points to a location instead of a specific file (e.g. the http URL ends with something like abcd/1234/xqy), the URL will disappear when you press post/reply...whatever, and the picture will not post.

So as of now the only URL's that will work on these message boards, in terms of posting pictures, are URL's that start with http and end with a .jpg or .png or .gif

And no https URL's work at all, they get corrupted...

And if you go in and edit your post, and you have an IMG tag with a qualified URL inside the post you are trying to edit, the URL will disappear (in most instances).

Anyhow, I hope that PCGS is monitoring this thread and looking at the the issues that have been tested not to work, and add them to the task list of future fixes image

Search function times out. And the hits are irrelevant to the search words

Some posts have paragraph spacing and some don't. When you click on the "quote" button to see how that post was spaced, there is nothing there. Yet, my posts don't have paragraph spacing. ???

I find myself making fewer posts since the forum software upgrade because of the paragraph formatting issues.

This includes editing previous posts as others have already mentioned.

Posting seems to format better for me when using the "Quick Reply" entry box (at bottom of page), rather than hitting the "Reply" link in the bottom right area of a post.

It would seem that either method should function identically -- but at least for me, they don't...

Here's a new little wrinkle I discovered this morning.

Some of the text in quotes (and in the body of one of my posts that had Italic tags) only displays some of the letters. There are weird gaps. Anybody else noticing this? I'm using Chrome at the moment.

    image

Humorously (at least if you have a juvenile sense of humor like I sometimes do), if you read only the letters showing, it looks like it spells "orgy" instead of "originally posted by".

This is going to be a WAG on a possible way to trick the system, but do you guys who are having spacing issues (e.g. no recognizing line breaks) see the a- / A+ in the top right hand of your screen? Try pressing the A+, which changes to a different style sheet (larger view)...this is different than zooming in using your browser, this hides the normal style sheet and loads the "larger" style sheet, which might trick the browser into giving you back line breaks.

Anyhow, I don't have the browser issue with line spacing (and can't even recreate it), but those who do might want to try this trick to see if it works, and report back here...

    How's it work?

    Line breaks appear?

Try hitting the A+ (fonts should get larger) and then go to post something and see if the line breaks appear as they should...

    Again, just a guess...

EDITED to add:I'm just trying to help out people who aren't getting line breaks as I've tested every single browser version and all seem to work, and I've also posted for people to try to reset their browser (e.g. clear everything, all caches, cookies, history, everything...reset as new) as that might do the trick...albeit will require for you to log back into websites that you have saved passwords for. It is either a server-side cache issue (and PCGS might need to clear the server cache) or a browser side cache issue, that's where I'm at as a 75% certainty for the problem.

Oh well. This creaky old puter IS pretty ancient, so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised.

Do you suppose i can find a box of the right kind of letters on eBay?

PS- you must have come over while I was napping and done the thesaurus thing? 'Cause right now (also in Chrome but on my Android tablet), it looks fine. No gaps. Maybe I should go back and look on the old HP desktop and see if somebody unscrewed the back of it. Hm.)

Am I the only one that gets SOME PMs delivered to my inbox only?

When I send PMs to members, some reply that go into my Forum inbox (With an e-mail notification) and some I only get the message in an E-Mail. I don't think it's a setting on my end since I get both, is it just the way some reply to me, or what they click on to start the reply?
