Can't often get a classic head with that kind of look for $700. I agree that zas107 did well in buying it. Doesn't matter if it had some work done on it or not for that price, or if it's cleaned and recolored for that matter. There's just no downside.
<< <i>Why is it raw and why was it priced so low. Those are the questions that need to be answered. >>
According to the description, the coin came back from PCGS as cleaned. I'm guessing it's still raw because the submitter requested that the coin not at least be holdered as genuine?
Still a great pickup, if genuine.

Agreed. Were I the buyer I'd have PM'd the thread creator and politely asked him to remove the thread at least until I'd gotten the piece in hand. If the seller sees this thread before shipping then there is a real chance the buyer doesn't get the coin.
As to the coin itself...definitely looks cleaned and recolored to me but still a nicely struck piece. That worked on field might be a dealbreaker though.
There are 2-3 spots on that coin that make me think work, of some sort, was done on it. Regardless, the meat is there on that coin and it isn't an easy one to find like that...
I received a tracking number from the seller, and was quite excited this morning when it was scanned as delivered . I went to the post office, and there was no package. I provided them with the tracking number provided to me, and it correlated to a promotional pamphlet that was addressed to another PO box....... Time to work on getting my money back.
Keep an eye on the seller to see if he sells that coin again. Based on his Ebay history, that's the only coin in his "sold" category, he doesn't sell much and most of his feedback is from purchases.

Double check the tracking with the seller before you request a refund.
Although this cent is AU beyond the field issue it looks betters many graded AU58 & MS61-63.
It's worth fighting for a bit before tossing in the towel.

Wait a few days before doing anything. USPS tracking numbers are horribly unreliable. I have had packages to me show up as "delivered" when they were still in the local Post Office waiting to be stuck in the individual p.o. boxes.

The coin looks familiar, but I'm not on eBay enough to recognize that particular seller. Interesting to note that he has historically sold a number of better large cents, and for much more realistic market prices. Wonder why he let this one go so cheap?

Even if the scratch in the obverse field was smoothed the overall look is still far better then many in graded holders.

18 minutes... I think that proves my point.

Because it still looks better then many in the $7-10K range.

I agree. Between star 2 and Liberty's throat has definitely been worked on.

I think he means he doesn't like this thread because it is possible the seller may read it and suddenly "lose the coin".

From the pics, it looks stellar! Especially at $700!

$700 for THAT beautiful coin, and it was won on a Best Offer? Easily a $4,000 coin. I would have just hit the BIN instantly.
... although I should say that it is clearly recolored, and possibly burnished prior to the adjustment. Still a beauty for what it is.
But for a few , "You Suck".
