ANA Report Day 1

Still have dinner tonight before concluding day 1...

Highlights in no particular order:
1. Acquired a 50% interest in a very rare half eagle and another scarce half eagle at the absolute last table in the whole place which I am a little sad to not 100% own
2. Found some old holdered gem 1800's foreign coins. An 1822 10F Swiss gold piece in N65 Old Fatty and a Guatemala 2R in MS66 with monster color.
3. Met HandH and Barndog for the first time at the show and am having dinner with HandH
4. Talked to ex. Congressman Jimmy Hayes via John Dannreuter about my ex. Jimmy Hayes, Milas 1842 $5 LL and he expanded the provenance to include David Akers and noted that he included the coin as a sub-variety in his first issue type set (first large letters reverse) which was super cool to add to the history. He bought it at a coin show in the 70's.
5. Seeing Gerry Fortins gold CAC dime display and talking to him about the backstory on each was cool.
6. Sold some coins to a forum dealer which I did not expect to part with, placed a coin which I recently acquired into a great set which makes me feel good that it has a good new home.

Low lights:
1. A haven't been able to sleep this week and today was no change. 3:39am and a 2:30hr drive to Chicago kinda sucks.
2. I see the same coins from last years ANA.

Late 1800's, 1898 I think. Nothing rare but very attractive with loads of color

I haven't heard much in terms of sales. The market seems to be in a lull.

You clearly weren't at the show. Everyone I talked with said they were having a phenomenal show, both buying and selling.

I will second and third this.

One major dealer said this was the best show since 2009. That is a major statement.

Great to hear that you are having a fun and eventful show.
Wish I could be there. You would surely win the "Travelled farthest" award if you count the starting point of your trip.

I hope you tell us more about your two NEWPS.

I was wondering about that "Half interest" myself...first thing that popped into my head was kids involved in a divorce.
