when I see a phrase like that, I have to say: POST YOUR COINS GRADED AU53!

Did not see any problems on my end.

Au58 is a 65 but circ.
Au55 is a 63 but circ.
Au53 is a 61 but circ. Usually oogly.
Those are what I always lived by. Your old toning gives them eye A PEAL.
Next.
This 1734/3 in AU53 is probably my favorite coin. Picture does it little justice.

<< <i>the "problem" is that a TPG AU53 can be anything from an actual XF45 to an AU58 >>
I agree, to call some of these fine coins "almost uncirculated" seems far fetched. Truly, I believe AU58 is the only real "almost uncirculated" grade where others should be "XF".

$9.50 worth of problems
Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody and be perfect !

Ironic you posted this as this is my single biggest pet peeve from a previous thread. There is no Almost Uncirculated nomenclature in the Sheldon Scale, it's About Uncirculated, go look.
I cringe when people use the term Almost Uncirculated because a) it's not a real term, b) any coin that is not Uncirculated is Almost Uncirculated (including VG8, for example)....that's why the Sheldon Scale doesn't used Almost Uncirculated because that would describe every single circulated coin.
It's ABOUT UNCIRCULATED.
Ok, sorry, hit a hot button...
Edited to add: not picking on the OP, just saying, we need to stop using Almost Uncirculated, that would be a good beginning towards moving away from some of the complaints...

Got me good(well)! I thank you for pointing out my error. I'll try to be better in the future.
Before TPG a common grade use to be XF-AU (AU as mentioned was used more for borderline unc. coins) and if you were selective you ended up with nice AUs (not necessary high AUs)
I've been sending in coins I picked up before grading, several that on exam had fine hairlines that I didn't see 30-40 yrs ago but one I sent was a 1827 CBH marked XF-AU that I thought was much better than that and was a high end AU.
Came back as a MS-62 ! Funny thing is after I got the coin back it was obviously unc. but never thought so before.
Does the holder make you see a coin differently?

Both of my au53's are upgrades from 50 holders. Nicer than 50, but not ch au55's either
