Milk Spot Reward

BAJJERFANBAJJERFAN Posts: 31,615 ✭✭✭✭✭
Did PCGS EVER post a list/blog of terms and conditions which must be satisfied in order to claim the reward or was it more of a mentioned in passing sort of thing? Just curious.

now that they no longer guarantee against spotting, it may be a useless pursuit with them.

True dat, but it's not quite what I was asking. Was it ever formally documented here? Is that retroactive back to when they started grading/guaranteeing them or was it from now on at the time they made the announcement. I know they still have an interest albeit a less intense interest.

    Hey DIMEMAN, pay attention.

I for one, would appreciate it if you would allow us Modern collectors the courtesy of refraining from your constant harangue and derogatory comments about our collecting preferences.

It adds nothing to the dialogue and is pretty annoying after a few dozen negative remarks in threads that aren't even related to your interests. How about some common courtesy?

Rule 5) If you have nothing to contribute to an OP then do not post. Snide remarks and other negative comments will result in your losing your ability to post. No more warnings.

Rule 8) This forum is provided for the education and sharing of information. Not as a personal soapbox. If you want to learn and share information about US Coins you are welcome.

There may come a time when your obnoxious diatribes are going to bear fruit. Why not give it a rest? Have a nice day.

The reward is finding them without Milk Spots and making ten grand the old fashioned way via the PCGS brand, if you will or if you can. That's the gamble. And NOBODY can beat the king of the mountain (That Good Old fashioned Treasury Dept.)
However , with regards to the question, specifically…. I don't think there was anything actually laid out on "how, what, when, where, or why" anyone could solve this problem, or fix this dilemma that is a detriment to collectors but a moot point for stackers.
I think it was just an offer to come up with the "CURE" for fixing the problem of these SAEs coming from the mint that way (with milk spots), Tom.
And to date, I do not think anyone has received a reward or cured the problem.

Not exactly. It's actually one more reason to buy moderns on the secondary market after the accepted milk spot incubation period has passed if the prospect of getting spots worries you.

This is the correct forum - and a valid topic for discussion here.

It may seem like sacrilege to some, but I've found that if you properly "dip" the bright white silver coins and properly rinse and dry them before holdering, they won't develop "milk spots".

Yes, this topic has been discussed here before.

Agreed about the dipping, but that's not to say that it wouldn't have spotted without the dip. Dipping pretty much assures that it probably WON'T spot. In fact, I posted a suggestion [more than once] to pre-screen coins for potential to spot by looking at them with a halogen flashlight, but that seems to have sailed over everyone's head/s.

BTW do you remember any formal announcement of a reward and if so where on this site one could find it?

Just to clear up a point on this statement:

<< Just "ONE MORE" reason NOT to buy Mint CRAP! >>

This was a bash on the mint and not coins. It seems that a lot of people are not happy with their mint products recently.

Why not wait and buy what you want in the secondary market where you can pick and choose???

It was HRH that made the initial announcement/request/reward notification, iirc.
I do not believe that I ever saw any exact list of terms/conditions actually posted. It was more of a "they are spotting and costing us a lot of $$$ in guarantees" (think MS/PR 70 type of things when there weren't many of them). "so, we want to see if this problem is solvable and, if so, we will give a monetary reward" type of thing.

I believe that's why you can't find anything exact....it was never listed out.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

We've actually been acumulating spotted coins...for analysis and in an attempt to develop a spot policy. We've now done that and we'll be publishing how spots effect grade, what we do about, etc. guidelines in the next week or two. We're also processing all spot reviews now.

Am as guilty as anyone for using the term "modern crap", and it's true that I do not purchase as much as I used to prior to purchasing a brick and mortar shop. I can't mint my own and I don't own a chemistry lab. Inasmuch as that's concerned, I think a few brothers are being exceptionally attentive to a comment as "negative" , when it's just a man's thoughts … I can appreciate that (respectfully) as much as I appreciate those who agree with jmski's passion. Yet, I think we tend to (humans) look more analytical at words "online" than we would if we were all sitting around the shop chewing the cud, as it were. Mooo

Remember that old wise man who said something about "entertaining a thought without accepting it ? "

The problem is that "milk spots" are a patch of etched metal. (like corrosion).
The desired surface texture has been obliterated in those regions.
The only way to get rid of milk spots is to entirely re-mint the coin.
