1942-D/D RPM......NOT RARE OVERDATE as Great Southen Coin claims!
Great Southern Coin has it listed as a RARE OVERDATE!
First they do not show anything about an overdate in the photos.
Some people must be thinking this is the very valuable 1942/1-D FS-101 which would be terrible.
The winner will be very upset when it is NOT an overdate at all, just an RPM.
There are at least 19 RPMs for this date and that is all this is, not even one in the CPG.
As a coin in its current cleaned condition it might be worth $50 max.
The bidding is nearing twice that with 7 hours left...and we know people will go nuts in the last few minutes.
They are being deceptive in their listing...err, trying to get people to think this is the VALUABLE OVERDATE!...or so it seems.
Maybe it is just an "Honest Mistake?"
The RPM photo is not very good with the funky shadows going on but it could be WRPM-002, WRPM-005 or WRPM-008.
Please report this listing ASAP to get it pulled.
Thank you for your support in this effort.

Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

In light of that, I can say "good eye" for keeping an eye out.

<< <i>Just one question (as a fellow merchant / vendor / businessman / citizen ), did you contact GSC before making this thread ? It would be prudent to first go to the source of the potential or obvious problem and see if it might be an oversight on their part.

I absolutely did.

Hello, we saw the mistake and will notify the winning bidder of the issue. It does add some value to the coin, but not a lot as you have accurately pointed out. However, it is still good to know for those who collect RPMs and other varieties/errors.
Thanks for your concern,

Wasn't there someone that had fake accounts that would bid something up into the 5-digit range and then just not pay of course. I can't recall who those fine folk were but nor would I encourage that but at this point I could certainly find some humor in it.

<< <i>Sellers end auctions late all the time when they are not getting enough for their coin and I've never seen anything happen to them. However, if they give the winner the option to accept or reject, I see no issue with that. >>
Other than the fact that the auction MIGHT NOT have gone so high without the word OVERDATE?! Some people have a questionable moral compass.

<< <i>While a seller cannot modify a description or title that has bids, seller can add more information that will appear below the description as an update. >>
They can also allow ANSWERED QUESTIONS to be posted as well.
I believe they can also end an auction but GSC sent me another message saying they can't end auctions when there are less than 12 hours remaining. Is that a lie?

<< <i>Genuine 1942/1-D dimes have an RPM if I remember correctly. Throwing in 'overdate' might be an attempt to attract speculators. I'm thinking, though, that anyone who knows about the RPM would know that the 4 in the date should also be strongly doubled and isn't on this coin. >>
Yup, I have mentioned this. Doesn't look like eBay will pull it in time.

No, it's not a lie. An auction can't be ended for any reason with fewer than 12 hours left. The problems with adding to the description or showing answered questions are that they are at the bottom of the listing. For a listing with lots of information in the body like this one (as opposed to someone who writes a sentence or two in a plain font) those updates are likely not going to be seen since most people won't scroll down well past the description (and past terms and conditions, etc.) to see the update, and they have no idea they are supposed to be looking for the update.
I've had problems like this before, too. First, I hope it goes without saying that I'm never trying to be deceptive, so if there's a mistake in my listing that I get caught on, it's just that, a mistake, and I appreciate when it's brought to my attention. Sometimes I'll find out early on, and other times I won't find out until there are 5 hours left. In the first scenario, if there's a bid I can't update the title or simply edit the description, and eBay punishes the seller by charging a final value fee for ending the listing early (even for innocent errors, like a typo in the grade). To counter this, my strategy is to have a friend place a high bid, and then I end the item to "sell to the high bidder." I don't actually sell it, but then I can cancel the sale mutually and get the fee back. For items that have an error caught too late to end, I'll similarly have a friend place a nuclear bid and then cancel the deal when they win. For some minor errors or ones where I catch it after the auction ends, the best I can do is let the buyer know and make sure they're happy with the sale or with canceling it.
Now, the idea that GSC implied they wanted the listing to end artificially high seems bogus. If they simply said they couldn't end it early and they would make sure the buyer knew of the error, that's a legitimate response. Anything else, I'm not so sure. In all, I'm not going to say they're playing this the right way and I can't comment on whether the keywords were accidentally or purposeful, but certainly some of what they're saying about the logistics of ending an item early are definitely true. eBay wanted to prevent sellers from ending items early because that disappointed buyers, and now they have a new way to potentially get sellers in trouble and have buyers still be mad. Brilliant.

That is true, a seller cannot end an auction with less than 12 hours remaining.
