Portland ANA March 2015 - Show report (Day 2 update).

Got up early and drove down from Seattle yesterday. My electronic "dash" decided to quit as I stopped for gas in Centralia - went dark but still showed I was going 70 mph as I was filling the tank.
From there to Portland I just followed the flow of traffic since I had no idea how fast I was going. Arrived at the convention center about 8 AM just in time to get a badge and head in to the show.
Attendance seemed light. A few dealers were absent secondary to weather issues back east. It will be interesting to see how attendance is today. I'll leave the dealers perspective on sales to them.
Had a chance to catch up with SeattleSlammer, SwampBoy, Meltdown, Dennis88, CRO, DavidW, Regulated, Fred Weinberg, BlueCC, EERC, BWRC and a few other non-forum folks.
Dropped 2 coins off at BluCC's for imaging - he really captured the look and color of the recently purchased Trade Dollar Doily.

One of the highlights was seeing the famous PCGS cricket at Fred's table. Story goes that one day the crickets incesent chirping was driving the graders crazy. They finally tracked down the culprit and entombed it in a PCGS slab. I was really hoping there would be something clever on the label.

Dennis88 found a stack of foreign currency to play with. I know nothing about what he deals in and always learn something new.

Fred Weinberg had this "slab" that I couldn't resist. For some reason I get a kick out of slabbing history and the prototypes that preceded the current state of affairs.

Kagins had this Stella, one that I've admired since it sold in around 2012 or so. It just has the look of undipped originality with peripheral toning that is mesmerizing.Even though Todd did a great job with the picture, the color has to be seen in hand to appreciate.

Will be hitting the floor again today at 8AM, mainly to socialize, catch up with the "Doily slut" and check the "daily" tables to see what's new before heading to a local golf course I've been wanting to play.
Day 2:
So, I'm so used to Boiler78 driving, I got a latte at Starbucks and suddenly realized I had no clue where I had parked the car.
I wandered around for a good 30 minutes and finally found the right garage, right across the street from the downtown Hilton.
The rest of the commute back to the convention center was thankfully uneventful.
Before heading to Portland, Drunner told me he was going to be there. So, I loaded up a few cool Doilies to show him. It was the first time we had ever met and he was nothing like I expected! Big dude, white beard and gregarious as the day is long.
We had a great time chatting about coins in general and Doiles in particular. He was kind enough to bring me a golf tee-shirt from his school (HS coach). He was relieved to hear that the Mormon $5 was still in a Doily holder - apparently there had been rumors of it's destruction. It was struck from misaligned dies and if the prior owner had convinced NGC/PCGS to put it in a error holder, it would have been history. It was first offered to him several years ago and he's been kicking himself since for passing on it.
Spent the rest of the show time with Dennis88 and introducing him to a few friends from the NW. A bammed PCGS forumite had a cool 1815 mold with collar that was set up as a mold for making 1815 halves. It was pretty cool to see in person and was for sale - $10K!
Said goodbyes to friends and Portland and drove to Royal Oaks golf course in Vancouver. Was watching the rear view mirror quite a while to see if I was being followed.
It's a really nice course and since we have reciprocity with my club, we played for "free". Won 2 and 1 against a golf buddy who has won the last several matches we've played.
Headed home with my crippled car and basically followed the flow of traffic since I had no clue how fast I was driving. When you're driving a 604 hp V12, it's easy to go too fast and not know it.

Put an update in the OP re: day 2.
And frankly that Doily Trade $ in-hand is a corker. Just fabulous. For me it ruined the experience looking at the other proof Trades on the bourse because they lacked similar eye appeal.
And then the dang Doily Seated $.
AND you won at golf?!?!
...I gotta wait a while before I post my report...I just can't follow this.
Hey...Meltdown....did you feel REALLY SHORT when all these guys were standing around you showing their goods?
They always laugh at me because I'm not 7' tall like them!!!

You were at a coin show, don't stick out your chest stick out your gut.

Great seeing you at the show, Lake.
Glad you won at golf. Heck with the 'Stellar', or whatever these guys are calling it. True talent is pinching a 90' wedge to one-putt range.
