We are now into 2015, how do you see the market for U.S. coins for the new year?

For every buyer, there's a seller... so I'll say both image

For every seller there is not a buyer.

As the comments pour in, the air thickens with 2015 U.S. Coin poll excitement.

I hope I can sleep tonight........feels like a presidential event!!!

    A renewed buyer's market? It's been a buyer's market since 2008!

Based on last a few auction results, especially 2015 FUN auction results, I have to guess 2015 is a buyer driving market image

Presently a buyers market... it could change, but nothing indicates such a change at this time. Cheers, RickO

You're right, I should have said 'another' buyer's market.

In that case, yes. With the price of oil in the tank (no pun intended) and no inflationary
pressure, gold will not make a meaningful advance, which will put a damper on interest
in coins. This could all change with some sort of destabilizing geopolitical event, of
    course.

I still see this as a bifurcated market. The prices for the premium stuff that the whales and big dogs want, the competition will be intense, and the prices will be high. The Pogue Sales results will be astonishing, and the middle class collectors won't even be at the table.

Conversely the market for run of the mill collector coins will continue to be slow. The middle class is dying before our eyes and with them a lot of the market for nice, but not stellar, material.

I place bids in the big auctions, and I get beat up most of the time. Yet The really nice material is in short supply, and most people who have it are holding, not selling. The last FUN show was an example. There were lots of coins to buy, but so far as I and many of the dealers with whom I do business were concerned, the "good stuff" was very hard to find.

From what I can see it's a seller's market for good stuff, a buyer's market for "stuff."

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Any market without breadth is not a particularly healthy market, IMHO.

Good point. I have to laugh when I hear a stock market report the the effect that "The sellers sere in charge today". If a transaction took place there was both a buyer and seller, tho the seller might not have gotten the price asked (if the sellers were in charge),
