3 Cent Silver, Dramatic Clashing

Walkerguy21DWalkerguy21D Posts: 12,129 ✭✭✭✭✭
A fairly recent upgrade to my old 7070 album.
An acquaintance who's a part time dealer was getting rid of some of his personal collection at a show,
and offered this one to me. I'm generally not drawn to itty bitty coins, and I was skeptical if the toning was AT or not,
but I liked it anyway, loved the clashing, and at AU Bid I had to have it. I don't know how many coins prior to this one
were struck after the dies came together, but I'm betting not many.

Nice piece. AU bid, you did well IMO. There appears to be rub on the star's radial lines. But the overall look screams MS.

That piece has a ton of character. When assembling my 7070 I specifically looked for a piece with dramatic clashing. I thought I had succeeded until I was your piece.

Thanks Alain - a guy from some error society or something borrowed it and photographed right at the show when I purchased it....it was supposed to be published on some website, but I never found it.

Strong clashings are not that rare on trimes. The planchets were so thin that the dies had to be set very close together, and when there was no planchet the dies could very easily clash.
