End of N. A. Dollars
Are N.A. $ going to stop being minted when the last Presidential Dollars are minted in years to come? I thought that the minting of one is based on the minting of the other. Please explain. Thanks.

And the Presidential dollars must end with Reagan in 2016 (limiting that annual issue to 3 coins), unless they want to come back two years after the deaths of one, or some of the five living former or current presidents.
What's a dollar worth these days anyway?

<< <i>I would love to see a VP Presidental dollar program but it's hard saying if it'd ever happen. >>
Why?
How many of those political non-entities can you name beyond the office holders who have served during your lifetime? I can't see much interest in a series like this. I have many books about the presidents, but I had only one about the vice presidents, and each chapter was at most three to four pages in fairly big print. I found it on the reject table at a public library sale.
There have only been a few VPs who did much. Did you ever hear of Charles Dawes? He was the VP who served under Calvin Coolidge. He won the Noble Peace Prize in the mid 1920s and actually earned it. He mediated some relief for the German economy that had been crushed under the reparations that came from the peace settlement for World War I. His was not the ultimate solution because it did not prevent the rise of Hitler, but at least he made the effort and did something.
Most VP's can't measure up to him and it wasn't always their fault. Most of the time the president ignored them except in those very rare occasions when their tie breaking vote in the Senate was important.
It would be more appropriate if there were a series coins about the business people and innovators who made the American economy great. They have done more to improve the lives of Americans than all of the vice presidents put together. That would not be politically incorrect, however. The only inventor or business leader who has gotten any numismatic notice in recent times was Thomas Edison on a commemorative silver dollar a few years ago.
Note that regular Sacs can still be made in 2017 and beyond.
<< <i>I hadn't thought of that, and it seems to follow. Then what, back to the eagle reverse and obverse date?

2015: Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson
2016: Nixon, Ford, then stop, or do none at all, because Carter is still alive, and they cannot do a coin unless the President being honored has been dead for two years.
Unless of course Carter passes away and CONgress waives the two-year waiting period. They they could finish out the four for 2016 with Reagan.
2017? Everybody from Bush I on is still living.

if you except Carter, don't you have to except Sr?
of course they could make another exception and put Sr into 2016. (law says 4/year, too)

Are you talking about Bush Senior? He isn't dead yet either.

I haven't read the legislation too closely, but it doesn't seem to rule out simply skipping Carter and moving on to Reagan as a "dead president", being so honored for the series and along with the tradition of not having living notables on US coins; the fact that Reagan died more than two years before the beginning of the series. Beyond that, there may be an uproar from the longtime Reagan coin supporters of being gypped.
And the irony of ending with Ford, whose era in coinage was the 1975-1976 bicentennial designs for the previously 90% silver denominations, where lots of people thought Ford himself was profiled on the obverse of that large copper nickel dollar.
But the question remains, what to do about the golden dollar after 2016? More irony in that Hillary Clinton was the main decision maker on the design that became the Sacagawea in 2000. She could be president come 2017, and if so, may have an influence there. But at the moment and thru 2016 there will be a Republican congress. Certainly Obama wouldn't veto any coin bill they come up with. Or will the mint simply act on its own, as it has done before?
I'm thinking we go to the $2 and $5 coins. Why not ? Less change, more cash.
Practice makes perfect & nobody is perfect. So, practice being nobody.
If you do Carter, it seems Sr would be just as qualified.
<< <i>Yeah That Sr

My hypothetical posited that if Carter passed away in 2015 or 2016, CONgress could waive the two-year waiting period for him in order to complete a four-year set ending with Reagan (President #40).
But what then? If Bush Senior (#41) were to pass away CONgress could certainly waive the two-year waiting period for him as well, but would theMint do just one Presidential dollar in a year? Clinton (#42) Bush the Second (#43) and Obama (#44) are all reasonably young and healthy.
They are doing 5 ATB/yr. there will be a 1 in a year at the end unless we can convince Congress to change it to 6/yr for the last year

Well, aren't you just a nattering nabob of negativism.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

Yea, Agnew a slime ball who was continuing to take bribes just like he was doing when he was governor of Maryland.
On the way to the Senate Chamber there is row of statues, each dedicated to each Vice President. The Agnew statue was delayed until just before his death. At first I thaught that he should not have had statue in his honor. Then I thouhgh that they should have had one ... that was two inches high, which would have matched his ethical stature. The man dishonored his office and country by his dishonesty.
the troubles and stress of being the President and leader of the free world.
