2014 Civil Rights Act $1 Silver Uncirculated Sold Out

Thoughts on this one? Mintage ~ 24,574, subject to returns and final orders. It's the 7th lowest mintage for a commem since 1996.

I bought a PCGS MS70 for speculation and hold. Also wonder if it's worthwhile buying only the lowest mintage examples of the silver commems?

If not, I'll break even when silver spot goes to $100. image

I hope everyone has a healthy and wealthy 2015.

Having had unhappy experiences with the 1964 Civil Rights Act, I wanted no parts of this coin. It is the modern commemorative that broke my complete modern commemorative set. Quotas are nothing but reverse discrimination.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

The unc is sold out, the proof goes off-sale tomorrow, so these numbers are probably close, if not high after order cancellations and returns.

    I bought a proof.

The reverse (tails) of this coin is an enhanced proof with multiple finishes. The flame is mirror polished; the field under the flame incorporates a combination of light polishing and a light laser frost texture; the lettering and torch have a heavy laser frost texture; and the circular ring with text has an accenting polish. This is the first time the U.S. Mint has used this combination of finishes.

    Yippee.

All the more reason why the mint's latest offerings are destined to sell two years from now for less than purchase price.

Get rid of the laser, computer and design by committee.

But I might as well talk to a wall.

    Technology, it's a wonderful thing.
