But you had no problem with Batista, right? It is time that Americans stop being suckers. Yes the Castro regime sucks big time, and its so bad that people sometimes drown on rickety home-made rafts trying to get out of Cuba. But the regimes in many other countries are oppressive too--Russia, Venezuela, China etc. Only the Anglos here believe that freedom and democracy is the motive of the embargo embraced by the Cubans who fled to Florida. The emigres only care about getting their property and socio-economic status back. They were the haves in a country of haves and have nots. For more than 50 years they have promoted a US policy that has contributed to the economic deprivation of their own countrymen who remained in Cuba. Why would anyone do that to their own people? Simple. They were perfectly content with the status quo under the old dictatorial regime in which those same people lived in deprivation, which is why there was a revolution in the first place.

    CG >>

Most of Cuba's economic problems stem from the communist system, not the economic embargos. If you can cite a communist country that has done well economically, I'd like to know about it. The trouble is the communist system with its central planners and total control of productive assets can't possibly allocate its assets effectively. Even with computers and without the political pressures and personal greed, which are always part of the equation in any economic system, communism simply falls under its own bloated weight and inability to gather and process all of the data that is needed to run it.

Then there are the human rights abuses that historically have always been a part of their "perfect system."

And frankly I believe that there are very few of us who are old enough remember who Batista was.

    Really? That's rather surprising.

Old men have always been crotchety and no generation has had better excuses than ours. image

I agree the fence has to go but am not convinced Obama can do it alone or that the Cubans
can make the changes necessary to get the rest of the US government to go along (if there is
any other US government than the presidency).

Cuba has some very interesting moderns. Finding Unc examples of many of them is pretty tough.

I am not sure that the many Cubans that jumped on anything that would float to come to America would agree that the Castro brothers are much better than the Pyongyang dynasty. At least though in Cuba, the weather is much better and one can catch a fish.

Before I became public enemy #1, no one here probably even noticed me.
YOU (not me) have turned this thread into the obsolete Open Forum, so I'm putting it on the back burner to fade away.

I used to post here years ago and recently came back for a couple of reasons, one to talk about coins and two I’m organizing my collection and have some coins that are not in my scope. In the old days people would have coin giveaways on this forum, but I guess it’s been halted since I left around 2004.

I learned some news about a YN and this board that pissed me off. I'm not going to make that public, and I don't know all the details, but I did PM Bochi, so if you want background on that you can PM him.

One of the reasons I left was the kind of threads like the 78-year old man recently, where instead of just ignoring it, every little Timmy in town had to pick a fight with him. So that also pissed me off and I posted some bait threads which I guess worked pretty well since the moderator took two of them down before I even had a chance to read them. If somebody wants to go after a 78-year old, they can go after me.

I only have two rules: #1) I don’t care what anybody on the Internet has to say and #2) See #1.

The third thread remains, but I changed the title.

We all have different backgrounds an experiences, but I'll explain my point of view.

    image

If I was an executive of a publically traded company and I saw my ticker symbol and then saw some racist comments, I’d protect my brand and act. PCGS is probably a $150 million brand, and if the minimal amount of advertising revenue it generated (with your eyeballs being here) threatened my brand, I would act to protect it.

Personally I would change the system to not allow any external content, so offensive YouTube videos or pictures would not be on my company’s site.

So there is no more content that is or could be interpreted as racist will be posted here. It's 2014 - I sure Mr. Willis and Mr. Hall would have the same understanding as I do.

I'm going to do two more threads, later.

One for the adults, because I do want to get some coin advice from some of the people I respect here.
The other one will be for the kids to keep you entertained while the adults are talking.

I'm busy and will probably fade away soon and you can go back to your play time. >>

I would think PCGS is more threatened by Chinese producers of fake coins in fake PCGS holders than the musings of a few coin collectors. I also do not understand why someone would throw red meat in a lion's cage and then complain that they ate it.

He is the boss and we may as well get over it as a unified nation of people.
