How Are Saddle Ridge Hoard Prices Holding Up ?

These Coins came onto the market with a marching band blasting away. I swore I was gonna get me one but thankfully
I listened to the voices of reason on this forum.

Anyway, in light of a slip sliding metals market and slow sales in the Coins Market in general, how are these SRH Coins
holding up? Anyone got a feel for how these have done?

Haven't some of these coins been cracked out and upgraded at NGC? I've seen a few of these on Heritage not too long ago.

The few I have seen in hand would not be worth the time and effort...common dates and lowish MS grades.
The gold foil label isn't doing much for me either.

Others were cracked and upgraded by 1 point+ at pcgs

I too really wanted one of these until I realized that the asking prices for the grades I could afford were double PCGS Price Guide!

It didn't take much convincing to step away after that.

These appear to still be for sale on Amazon. An 1883-S in XF45 with a PCGS Price Guide of $1400 has an amazon price of $3250?

Makes no sense.

One generous seller has a nice 1892-S MS-62 for sale at $6500.00. Very nice coin Indeed.

But a person can get the same date and condition from the Amazon listing at $4350.00 !

This optimistic ebay seller needs to get a clue.

Just like you would expect, there were some great deals along with some overpriced coins.

No reason to over-generalize and condemn the whole deal.

I know the buyers of the Dahlonega piece and 92-CC $5 are both very happy.

That really wasn't the question as obviously, anybody that shelled out money to buy these would be happy with their purchase.

The question was, are the prices holding up meaning, have people been able to sell at what they purchased them for? Perhaps it is too soon to make a comment other than, there are still plenty of these remaining to be sold on Amazon.

$7,050 which includes the 17% Buyers premium.

PCGS Price guide shows the 64+ at $12500.

So, according to that particular sale, no, the price didn't hold up.

PCGS Price guide is at 12,500 for a 64+ coin. SRH or not.

I have no idea what the original price was on the coin but this particular coin fell well below vale considering the fact that there's a 17% buyers fee tacked onto that price. Looks like it bid for a little over 6 grand.

The sticker could easily have added $7K to the price of the coin auctioned in October for $14,000. While both are 64+ the stickered coin looks nicer to me and really not any different than your typical generic MS65 1904. The $7K coin has more obvious field scrapes, distracting rev carbon spotting, and some gouging under the reverse stars. Considering that a 65 coin is probably worth $20K to $35K, a 64++ coin could easily be a $14K coin. And it's really not the sticker that adds the value here. The coin could be that much closer to upgrading than the other 64+. And that's what the game is.

There does appear to have been a Crack Out because I do not recall NGC ever receiving these coins for grading. Only PCGS. That one appears to have been a loser on at least two front.

While I really, really enjoyed the story as it broke, I have to admit that the pricing on these have been a complete disappointment for me from the start. I did have plans on purchasing one of the lower grade examples just to have one but I could only back off when they were more than double current price guide values.

These coins will certainly have some historical impact in the future of coin collecting but for now, they appear to be financial losers on the aftermarket due to the unreasonably high release prices.

But that's just my opinion.

You have to buy the coin, not the holder. I bought one of the genuine SRH coins because it was (and still is) absolutely gorgeous and lustrous. I posted it here as GTG and every reply was at least 62 with many 64. Of course, I paid much less than SRH64 pricing due to the "genuine" label. And I am the winner by far, because I still love looking at it and could care less about the fact that it received some very minor damage from Mother Nature.

I just took another look on Amazon and Kagins to see if any of the Saddle Ridge Coins are still waiting for buyers.
Sure enough both sites still have some. Kagins only has 5, really nice ones, at nice ( high ) prices. Amazon has a
load in rather poor shape. Still a pass from me.

Come on SS Central America ! Maybe I'll finally hit the trigger on one of those relics? Probably not !
