I would think the plethora of counterfeits must be a negative, but I really wonder if anyone of a numismatic mind is actually paying these prices for fakes. I guess so -- but I have a hard time imagining it . .

(No one faking the Doilies YET !!!)
counterfieting or accessory to...pretty serious charge if the chargers would get to charging darned it
<< <i>this should be a paid position as it would seem our secret service is sluff'n off....years now...years to go too

shipping the stuff across state lines ramps it up a bit.
i've read the really big punishment comes from bringing it across our borders.
honestly, i'd rather not even play games with them. i'd like to permanently ban them from ebay, for life. ruining people's collections and inheritances is not something i take lightly. i've seen plenty of faces,
heard plenty of voices and read plenty of words from those that got nailed and it is not a good thing to bear witness to. honest collectors seem to be some pretty decent folk. their political views also never
fail to impress/amuse, as do mine i'm sure.
.
yeah this stuff bites...tears at a core fiber in the numis world

i'm a little weak at classic comemms. i still need to acquire several dozen images for them but i gotta say to my classic comemm neophyte eyes, they look off. less than optimal lighting angles doesn't help.

<< <i>Ebay seller hocey is an honest guy-been on ebay for years. I've purchased a number of coins from him and have always been pleased with them. I would think he'd remove the listing. >>
I would think he would not have listed it to begin with, if he is ethical.

eBay dumping of their Ali Baba purchases.
<< <i>if the people buying the fakes worried as much as some of you do about what they are buying, fakes wouldn't be a problem. the "problem" is that people are too eager to bid and not eager enough to learn anything about what they are buying, this is why the fakes are still here. I have no sympathy for people too lazy to learn or those that try to protect people from themselves. >>
i feel that way sometimes.
then, i realize those that have the ability, have the responsibility.
also, it isn't just about stopping from someone from getting ripped. my number one reason is to try and stop the scammers and/or the ignorant "honest/lazy" sellers from getting more money for counterfeit junk. there are other angles but i won't go into them here.
i can see not trying every time. gets too frustrating now and then but to not try at all, ever. that would just be despicable. (not to imply you never do as i have no idea)
it does perplex me that someone that uses the id "ebaybuyer" wouldn't want to protect that which serves one so well.

The trouble with selling fakes as well as the over graded, whizzed coins that the "investment houses" sold at excessively high prices to their pigeons back in the late 1970s and early '80s is that the legitimate dealers get blamed and often pay the price when the stuff hits the fan. The result is draconian laws, like the one that just passed in Minnesota, that ruins the hobby for everyone. When government acts on issues like this, it often puts the hammer down on everyone, both the honest and the dishonest.
At times I too think that it might be better to let this stuff get sold on eBay and let the stupid lambs get slaughtered. Maybe they would blame eBay where much of the blame should be cast. In the past eBay has shown a militancy NOT to clean up their act. Perhaps if they caught the blame and it ruined their business, they might try to fix the problem or get out of the coin auction trade entirely. That I know is a pipe dream, but it's what eBay deserves if they don't fix this.
and next up, another well-known seller with an obvious fakie.
.
Hopefully they will learn their lesson (buying raw coins essentially sight unseen) after being burned a few times. Tuition can be harsh.

I ran across this tonight. Thought I'd share. Coin looks too perfect to me, and the seller has the classic I'm not a coin collector, this was my dad's approach.

well ladies and gentlemens, let me introduce you to the owner of LegendaryCoins, Joseph Barr, professional etsy.com con artist.
lets see what awesome merchandise he has for us today.
1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7
what say you?
against my experience, instinct and desire, i sent an image showing the incorrect date placement of the 1894 morgan with an authentic one. i think i do it for sheer morbid curiosity to see how stupid the persons are or hopefully, are not. usually intelligent people respond with interest and the stupid respond with anger and/or irrefutable denial. - hard to argue with years of experience and several dozen communications.
.
barber people
do barbers come this abraded? i'm not used to seeing so much weakness around the ear and top of cap, so i will call BS but i'm not confident enough to pull the trigger yet.

G.T.F.O.H.
so lets see, on the resume: 1. not a judge 2. not a numismatist
glad we got that straight.

oh boy. gotta LOVE that last one. geeze pete.

anyone wanna go to california?

Too busy looking for super deals on slabbed world gold.
<< <i>I Don't worry about it: don't have time to fool with that. If they are bidding on fake coins, well at least they are not bidding against me lol. There is no Santa Claus in Numismatics......Tuition can get ugly.

too busy doing for yourself in lieu of doing for others, i certainly hope that isn't your point although pretty obvious it is.
if this is all you have to add, feel free not to post here.
